EF2000 is a video game of the combat flight simulation genre released in December 1995 for DOS on the IBM PC compatible personal computer. It is the sequel to Digital Image Design's earlier software title TFX (computer game). In fact EF2000 runs inder the label TFX military. It was released after the introduction of Microsoft Windows 95 but only runs in DOS mode. EF2000 is a combat flight simulator featuring the recent NATO Eurofighter. The simulation had mind boggling groundbreaking graphics when it was introduced featuring terrain that looks amazingly detailed with great looking mountains, fjords, snowfields, sea etc. of the Baltic region featuring countries such as Norway, Sweden, Finland and some parts of Russia. The location was inspired by a scenario described in Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy. The game was to have included Iceland as part of the theatre but this was lost to concentrate on the scandinavian peninsula. In addition buildings and airfields have a lot of graphics detail as well. The detail was much a vastly graphical improvement of DID's earlier simulation TFX (for DOS on the PC platform). The simulation even supported early Virtual Reality goggles. An interesting part about the simulation is that upon executing the program it plays an Intel Pentium processor video clip theme which will only play if one has a Pentium class or higher PC (it seems to work with AMD processors). EF2000 comes with a huge well illustrated 285 page manual and comes with a paper operational navigation map as well as a quick paper command and control guide. The manual is well written and teaches aerial combat tactics, avionics, ordnance types and systems and includes many other details of the simulation.

[edit] Gameplay
Gameplay consists of Quick combat,Simulator,Training and Multiplayer and features simplified avionics systems of the Eurofighter. The Simulator mode is pretty interesting to fly around in the Eurofighter without any combat even if it's used just to enjoy the scenery. Still this simulation of the EF2000 Eurofighter is pretty complex whether one is in combat against air opponents or using ordnance such as laser guided bombs against ground targets, buildings, facilities, radar stations or enemy airfields. Air refueling is part of this simulation and can be quite a challenge and so can be landing without crashing on a graphically detailed military airfield. This simulation is pretty complex in its controls (several hundred) so it's a complex simulation but not as difficult as Falcon 4.EF2000 has either a Midi music choice or a CD music choice in the simulation or no music if one so chooses. The CD music is very interesting and it plays 2 hypnotic techno music tracks in the simulation during gameplay.
[edit] Military aircraft, ground force and naval force types included in EF2000

[edit] Later sequels
EF2000 spawned later versions with improvements. These were EF2000 V2.0 for Windows 95 and Super EF2000 with the Tactcom add on additions included for Windows 95 (both work on Windows 98, 98SE and ME too). In addition EF2000(or TFX) spawned other later DID simulations such as DID's F22ADF and DID's Total Air War. In 2001 Rage Games Limited put out Eurofighter Typhoon that had much improved graphics from EF2000.It was developed from the makers of EF2000 and has the Digital Image Design label on the box.
