Edwin Bourke

Edwin Bourke was the son of John Palmer Bourke who arrived in Manitoba from Ireland with the Selkirk Settlers in 1812. He was born in Castlegar, Ireland and came over with the working party. He worked for the Hudson Bay Company and was involved in the Battle of Seven Oaks. He was wounded and taken prisoner by the North West Company, taken to Montreal to stand trial. He was released and had to make his own way back to the Red River. He married Nancy Campbell a half-Irish, half-Sioux lady.
He lived in St. James on the Hudson Bay Experimental Farm that his father had purchased. He raised three sons and two daughters. His one daughter Maria Good (Bourke) lived in Winnipeg until her death at the age of 104.
