Edward S. Marcus High School is one of five main high schools in the Lewisville Independent School District, Texas. The school opened in 1981 and was the second high school in the district. The school opened with only 9th grade and wasn’t complete the first two weeks of school.
Marcus' mascot is the Marauder whose imagery mimics the Texas Tech Red Raiders. There have been four different costumes for the mascot, the most recent introduced in 2004.
The Marauders football team made it to the 5A-division II state championships in 1995 and 1997, winning in the latter year.
In 2006, the Marcus Band placed 1st at the UIL State Marching Contest. This was only their second time competing at the state level; the first being in 2004 where they placed 12th. The Marcus Band is the only band in LISD to ever win a state title.
The Marcus Drumline is a nine time National Champion, winning the Percussive Arts Society drumline competition in 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2004.
The school gets its name from a man named Edward S. Marcus, part of the Marcus family known for the Neiman-Marcus department stores, who donated the land to the school district. Thus, the normal trend for naming schools was broken in Flower Mound, Flower Mound High School (which normally would be the name for the first high school in a city) was actually the second school.
Every Year, Marcus has two rivalries in football. "The Mound Showdown" is the game against Flower Mound High School. Flower Mound has won the game the past 4 years. The 2005-2006 school year is the first time that the game has been played in Texas Stadium The second rivalry is "The Battle of the Axe," played against Lewisville High School. This rivalry is the more historic of the two, dating back to when Marcus and Lewisville were the only two high schools in the Lewisville Independent School District (LISD).
