Edward Belbruno
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Edward Belbruno is a mathematician whose interests are in celestial mechanics, dynamical systems, dynamical astronomy, and aerospace engineering.
In 1991 Belbruno applied his ideas for low-energy transfer orbits to the Japanese spacecraft Hiten designing a very low delta-v Earth-Moon transfer at a time when the mission was felt to be in jeopardy.
Belbruno is president and founder of the company Innovative Orbital Design, Inc.(IOD) and holds patents on routes in space. In a paper, co-authored with J. Richard Gott III, he discusses the Giant impact hypothesis in the formation of the Moon. Belbruno's books include Capture Dynamics and Chaotic Motions in Celestial Mechanics. He consults with NASA, and has made appearances on NBC's Today Show.
