Education and Sharing day is a day made by the United States Congress in honor of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson's (1902-1994) efforts for education and sharing for Jews and non-Jews alike. During his lifetime the Rebbe opened scores of center's of education called "Chabad Houses". Today there are over 4000 centers and institutions of education in 71 countries. It was inaugurated April 18, 1978 by president Jimmy Carter and since proclaimed annually on the Jewish birthday of Menachem Mendel Schneerson. In 2006 it was April 9.

President George W. Bush wrote in his proclamation on Education and Sharing Day 2006, "On Education and Sharing Day, we remember the efforts of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who promoted the importance of education and ethical teachings to every student's future. He sought to improve lives and communities through a vast network of education and outreach centers and social service programs around the world. We continue to be inspired by the Rebbe's good works and all those who dedicate their time, talents, and energy to helping our next generation grow into caring, responsible adults. Through devotion to faith, family, education, and community, we can continue building a better and more compassionate society."

The 1991 bill described the Noahide Laws as the "ethical values and principles which are the basis of civilized society and upon which our great Nation was founded". [1].

President George W. Bush called upon "government officials, educators, volunteers, and all the people of the United States to reach out to young people and work to create a better, brighter, and more hopeful future for all."
