Eduard Petiška

Eduard Petiška (May 14, 1924, Prague – 1987, Mariánské Lázně) was Czech poet, novelist, short story writer, playwrighter, translator from German, mostly known as author of books for children.
After end of World War II he studied German language and literature at Charles University in Prague (finished doctorate in 1949). Instead of looking for a fixed position in some institution he decided on uncertain adventure of writer and independent translator.
Petiška published cca 70 children books worldwide (usually illustrated by Helena Zmatlíková). He was also an excellent interpreter of legends and myths of ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt and Greece.
