PageantUpdater (talk contribs) I only found out about this recently but it seems like a good idea - I'm all for constructive criticism!

What do I hope to gain through this process? I guess I'm looking for new ways to become involved in the community. I am highly active in editing threads relating to beauty pageants (Miss USA, Miss Teen USA and Miss Universe related information in particular) but this doesn't exactly lend itself to much group discussion as there are only a handful of dedicated editors in this field. I'm trying to involve myself in New Zealand Collaboration of the Fortnight by adding 'helpful' suggestions if I'm not sure enough of the subject material to be bold and edit fully. I'm still newish, having only joined in mid March, and I'm fairly busy at the moment, but my long term goal/dream/aspiration/fantasy around here would be to become an admin so I can be more helpful.

I fully appreciate that I am still getting a handle on Wikipedia processes, policies, formatting etc, but I'm eager and open to learn more.

Comments? Suggestions? Thanks all in advance :) PageantUpdater 23:28, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Second question Ok sorry about this but there's a second question I'd like to ask - suppose I decide I would like to be considered for adminship in a few months time, what might hold me back? What could I be doing in the interim whilst I get myself more established that would help in any future adminship request? PageantUpdater 03:50, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Reviews

  • You have done a great job in the articles you have created/maintained/standardized so far, adhering to NPOV requirements, style, and have been polite and civil at all times. By going to WP:RCP and WP:CVU there are links to tools which you can use to combat vandalism; this is a good way to become more helpful outside your sphere of writing. Also WP:AFD is basically a forum where you can discuss the encyclopedia-worthiness of content; anybody can comment on anything. If you want to increase your range of editing topics, writing about suburbs and geographical bits and pieces in your local area is an easy way - there is unlikely to be another Wikipedian in the same immediately suburb so there will be holes to plug. I guess you could try to create a portal on beauty pageants.ßlηguγΣη | Have your say!!! - review me 03:07, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
  • Great job working on fashion related articles, though I suggest that you should spend some more time interacting with the Wikipedia community, perhaps through joining a WikiProject, participating in Esperanza, or working on a Portal--TBC 06:38, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
  • I wouldn't assess our intteraction as a dispute personally; simply, as a new user Carly was creating a lot of stubs which didn't contain much more than external links and it set off my spam radar. I gave her the standard welcome and a few words of advice about spam links/slowing down on the stubs. I soon learnt that she's a lovely person and a very keen new editor. To be honest, I'd forgotten about our interractions so to see her user page and editorial review now is a very pleasant surprise. The new user I welcomed not so long ago now has a barnstar and has become a valued member of the community. Great stuff. It's a bit early to be thinking about adminship but I see no reason why not after a little more time here and after widening her focus. --kingboyk 08:23, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Questions

  1. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
When I joined there were but a handful of articles on Miss USA state pageants, and they were written in a hodgepodge of styles. I re-wrote them into a coherent style and completed all fifty-one of the rest (see here), as well as all the articles for the Miss Teen USA state pageants. I have also written articles for all the Miss USA 2006 delegates and have created and expanded articles on Miss USA winners, Miss Teen USA winners and Miss America winners. I have also created and filled categories of Miss USA, Miss Teen USA and Miss America delegates. PageantUpdater 23:27, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
  1. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
When I was in my first week here I had an "interesting" discussion with Kingboyk over the inclusion of some specific links, which included me assessing the situation in a completely ridiculous way. I have since settled down and have figured out this place so that certainly won't happen again! There were also minor issues with Joey 80 but I feel I was measured and reasonable and we have since worked it out had have edited together successfully. As for future conflicts - well I'm a stage two law student so I know how to argue! -- but again the thing is to be measured and reasonable in making your point of view clear, knowing when to step back if the situation calls for it, and knowing when to be steadfast, again, when the situation calls for it.
