Cuivienen (talk contribs) I've been around since November, and I've been fairly involved in both the articles and background framework that make up Wikipedia. Right now, I'm simply looking for a review of my status as an editor to learn from outside sources how I can improve. —CuiviénenT|C|@ on Wednesday, 31 May 2006 at 04:12 UTC

  • What are a few things that I could do to improve my contributions to Wikipedia as an encyclopedia?
  • What are a few things that I could do to improve my contributions to Wikipedia as an encyclopedia-building community?
  • I try to contribute in a wide variety of subjects while focusing on a specific area. Would you consider this contribution pattern sound, and if not, how could I improve it?
  • Are there any encyclopedia-focused projects where you feel I might be able to make a worthwhile difference?
  • Are there any community- or otherwise non-encyclopedia-focused projects where you feel I might be able to make a worthwhile difference?
  • What is…
…my greatest strength as an editor?
    …my greatest weakness?
  • What else would you like to say to me?

Questions

  1. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
All sorts, I suppose. I've created a number of relatively short articles about subjects I know relatively little about; it's fun to do the research and then write the article. Falernian wine and York Avenue (Manhattan) were created this way, among others. I recently rewrote Hurricane John (1994) almost completely, and the article is now a GA and undergoing a peer review; I hope to make it my first Featured Article where I can claim most of the credit. I have also contributed to numerous featured articles, including J. R. R. Tolkien and most of the featured tropical cyclone articles, but I was not the main contributor to any of those. I'm still proud, of course.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
Oh, well. I was involved in the earlier days (and my earlier days) in the Userbox Wars. Never again. I was "on the pro-userbox side" at the time, though I've since come to realize that userboxes don't really matter and it isn't worth fighting over them. There are no userboxes on my user page any more and there haven't been for at least two months. Certainly taht debate caused a fair amount of stress, but I feel that I've learned a great deal from it as well, and it helped me to mature as a Wikipedia editor. I've been involved in other minor disputes since then, but nothing considerable and nothing particularly stressful. I like to think of myself as someone who keeps his cool more often than perhaps he should.
