Edison screw
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Edison screw cap is a system of light bulb connectors, developed by Thomas Edison in the late 1800's.
The Edison screw system use Exx identification where 'xx' is the diameter in millimeters, e.g E26.
In America the standard size is E26, although E12 is used for candelabra fixtures and E10 on some Christmas lights. E17 is also common, especially in some table lamps.
In most countries which use 240 volts AC domestic power, example, Australia, E27 and E14 are very common sizes, althought the Bayonet mount is more popular.
Larger sizes, like E40, etc. are also commonly used, mostly for higher powered lighting, like streetlights and floodlighting.
