The Edinburg Coyotes are an independent minor league baseball team which plays in Edinburg, Texas. They are one of six charter members of United League Baseball, which began play in the spring of 2006, replacing the disbanded Central Baseball League's Edinburg Roadrunners. Like all ULB clubs, the Coyotes are an independent minor league club without major league baseball affiliation. The Coyotes began their existence by winning an historic 17 games without a loss, a minor league record, completing over 5 series before finally losing to the San Angelo Colts. The Coyotes went on to win the inaugural United League regular season title before losing to the Alexandria Aces in the league championship.
[edit] Winter League Coyotes
Edinburg also fields a wintertime version of the Edinburg Coyotes, which will begin play mid-January of 2007. It is one of four teams in the United League Baseball Winter League, the only league of its kind in the continental United States, which plays a 24-game schedule from mid-January through mid-February of each year. All games will be played at Harlingen Field. Each team will have a 25-player roster, and the teams will play doubleheaders each day with 4 days off during the regular season. Other teams playing will include Brownsville, the Laredo Broncos and Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings. This league operates as a winter counterpart to the regular United League with its own identity, teams, standings and statistics.
