Edge of Seventeen (song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Edge of Seventeen" is one of Stevie Nicks' most popular songs from her highly successful debut album, Bella Donna. Released as a single in early 1982, it made the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 (#11), and the Top 5 of Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart, peaking at number four.
The title supposedly comes from a time when Nicks asked Tom Petty's wife when they met. His wife said, "At the age of seventeen," but she had a very strong Southern accent; Nicks thought she said "the edge of seventeen" and liked the sound of the phrase.
The song's title was used for 1998's award-winning gay independent film Edge of Seventeen. The song itself appeared in the film's soundtrack.
The song was featured in the 2003 comedy film School of Rock, which starred actor Jack Black. The song was covered by pop singer Lindsay Lohan on her sophomore album A Little More Personal (Raw). The song was also covered by Montreal's Jonas Tomalty on his debut album, Jonas.
The bass of the single was sampled in the Destiny's Child song "Bootylicious." Nicks made an appearance in the music video.
