Ectoconus was a sheep sized member of the Periptychidae family which lived during the Lower Paleocene in what is now North America.
Ectoconus was stoutly built and had a small braincase, short, strong limbs and a heavy tail. Its feet had five hooved digits much in the manner of today's ungulates.
Most complete skeletons of Ectoconus have been found in New Mexico.
