Eclipse Cannon

In Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog, the Eclipse Cannon was the ultimate weapon of mass destruction on Space Colony ARK, notably able to destroy entire planets and pierce stars. The Chaos Emeralds were the necessary energy source to activate its full power, as it needed large amounts of energy. The Eclipse Cannon has been seen to destroy a large city with five Emeralds, half a moon with six, and can supposedly destroy planets and stars with all seven.

After Eggman released Shadow from Prison Island, the mysterious hedgehog told him to bring more Emeralds to the ARK. Shadow then revealed his plan: use the Eclipse Cannon to blow up the Earth. Unfortunately, because of its long deactivation, it would take 24 hours to fire again, unless powered by the 7 chaos emeralds. Accompanied with Rouge the Bat, they gathered six of the Chaos Emeralds, and used the cannon to blow up half of the moon, panicking the people of Earth. The cannon needed the last Emerald to unleash its full fury. Later, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy came to the ARK with two Emeralds, the real one and a fake one that Tails designed in the hope of using it to cause the cannon to malfunction. Eggman, however, found out and stole the real one. However, when placed with the other Emeralds the cannon didn't fire. A program set up by Gerald Robotnik activated, sending the ARK towards Earth as punishment for the massacre G.U.N. caused there 50 years prior, leading to the death of Gerald's granddaughter Maria Robotnik amongst others. Sonic and Knuckles dashed to the Cannon's Core with the Master Emerald, as it had the power to neutralize the Chaos Emeralds. Upon reaching the core the sealed Biolizard prototype was released by the program, blocking their path. Shadow distracted it as Knuckles stopped the Chaos Emeralds. As a fail-safe should the Emeralds be neutralized, the Biolizard then used Chaos Control to disappear and fuse with the ARK, becoming the Finalhazard. Sonic and Shadow used the Emeralds to turn into Super Sonic and Super Shadow. They destroyed the Finalhazard and used Chaos Control to teleport the ARK back to its original spot. Shadow, out of energy, fell through the Earth's atmosphere and seemingly died, but one of Eggman's robots rescued him, unbeknownst to the others.

In Shadow the Hedgehog, Shadow, alive, but with an erased memory, is tasked by Black Doom, the leader of the Black Arms, with collecting the seven Chaos Emeralds. Shadow collects them, with the last being found on the Black Comet, unfortunately. When Shadow obtained the last emerald, Black Doom stole all Emeralds and used chaos control to bring the Black Comet to Earth so he could use the people of the planet as an energy source for his Black Arms children (the earth’s atmosphere preventing the black comet from getting to earth without the use of chaos control with all seven emeralds). After immobilizing Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Amy, Rouge, and Doctor Eggman, Doom fled, pursued by Shadow. Meanwhile, on the ARK, Vector, Espio, and Charmy activated a secret video from Professor Gerald, produced before G.U.N. raided the colony and stating the truth about Shadow and the Eclipse Cannon. 50 years ago, Black Doom helped Gerald create Shadow in exchange for Shadow delivering the Chaos Emeralds to the alien leader 50 years later. Realising his efforts to make Project Shadow a success had caused him to form an alliance that could doom Earth, Gerald had his own plans. He created the Eclipse Cannon, strong enough to destroy the Black Comet, and placed it on the outside of the ARK. He intended for it to destroy the comet with the cannon, fueled by the Chaos Emeralds, when the Black Comet returned on its next annual 50 year orbit. Now knowing the truth, Shadow used the Chaos Emeralds to fight back against Black Doom after he transformed into his more powerful Devil Doom form. After sending Doom plummeting to his death, Super Shadow then used Chaos Control to warp the Black Comet in front of the ARK and used the Eclipse Cannon to destroy it.
If the player chooses to complete the Dark mission on 'The ARK' level in the game, the Black Arms take over the ARK and use the Eclipse Cannon, fueled with 5 Chaos Emeralds, to destroy the United Federation's capital, Central City (in an obvious parody of "Independence Day"). However, because of the fact that this is part of some of the 326 paths, it most likely didn't happen, and is considered non-canon, as Shadow was apparently quite loyal to Black Doom in the story arcs where he destroys the city, very unlike the actual ending.
