Echo Transgression
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Echo Transgression is one of the alter egos of performance/new media artist and filmmaker Kristie Alshaibi (formerly Kristie Drew, and born as Kristie Jeffries in 1972). Echo was created in 1997. Her first name was derived from the myth of Narcissus. Her full name is an homage to the Cinema of Transgression, a New York based film movement in the 1980s. Cinema of Transgression was given its name by filmmaker Nick Zedd, who appeared with Echo Transgression in the 2002 feature length movie, Other People’s Mirrors, directed by Kristie Alshaibi.
Echo Transgression has starred in many short films by Usama Alshaibi, including Convulsion Expulsion, The Amateurs, Slaughtered Pigtails, Ass, Soak, and others. She appears in the music video for Bobby Conn’s “Angels.” She has performed live with Magic is Küntmaster, and opened for such artists as Mr. Quintron. In 2002 Echo Transgression appeared on MTV and VH1 as a part of a documentary program called Sex2K, and performed live on Mancow Muller's Morning Madhouse radio show in 2001.
Echo has modeled in Venus Magazine as a part of a goth fashion layout created by Camilla Ha, and she has written articles for $pread magazine. Several articles about her have appeared in the Chicago Reader, New City, and the underground British zine Chaotic Order. She has modeled for several web sites including http://SolarAnus.com, and http://EroticRed.com.
Echo blurs life and art so effectively that her creator was arrested in 2000 for performing as Echo in a Chicago hotel. Kristie Alshaibi often refers to Echo Transgression as “an alien porn star prostitute” who hears voices that are transmitted directly into her head via an antenna implanted in her spine. She remains dead silent and cold in social situations, sometimes hiding behind a glittery mask or elaborate make-up.
