Eastgate clock
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Eastgate Clock is clock set in an elaborate wrought iron frame above the Eastgate of the ancient walls of Chester, north-west England. Although the gate had lasted since medieval times, the Victorians updated it in 1896 to celebrate Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee. The cuboid frame has a clock face on each side, with an inscription reading:
'This clock was presented to the City by Edward Evans Lloyd, Citizen and Freeman, 1897' .
The clock is said to be the most photographed timepiece in the UK outside London, and has become a landmark of Chester.
