East Villa FC are an English football club formed in 1959. They entered the Liverpool League where they won both the WJ Sawyer Cup and the Lord Colwyn Cup before moving to the I Zingari Alliance in season 1970/71.

[edit] History

In their first season with the Alliance they achieved promotion from the Second Division to the First Division as runners-up. The next season 1971/72, saw them win the I Zingari Alliance First Division Championship, well on the way to the objective of I Zingari Alliance to I Zingari League Division One status. The club achieved this objective with a remarkable six seasons which saw them also finish runners-up in the I Zingari League Division Three in 1973/74, Second Division Champions in 1975/76 and First Division runners-up in 1976/77. More recently the club were Premier Division runners-up in seasons 1987/88, 2005/06 and Premier Division Champions in season 2004/05.

The club celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1984/85. Highlights of those first twenty-five years were the I Zingari League Second Division Championship winning side of the 1976/76 with goalkeeper Steve Gomery, ever present, conceding only 22 goals in 24 games and up front John Burns and Billy Murphy scoring half of the 65 league goals between them.

Another great achievement of the "Villa" was their success in the Liverpool County FA Challenge Cup Competition, winning the Trophy in season 1989/90. The "Villa" as winners of the Challenge Cup represented the Liverpool County FA in the Northern Counties Senior Cup in 1990/91 and became the first and, to date, only I Zingari Club to win this competition.

The "Villa" were finalists in the I Zingari Challenge Cup in seasons 1979/80, 1980/81, 1985/86 and 1990/91. They were also finalists in the Liverpool Amateur Cup in 1989/90, winners of the Roy Wade Memorial Trophy in 1987/88 and 1988/89 and Hugh Latimer Sportsmanship Trophy winners in season 1977/78.

As with playing, so too in administration, the "Villa" have always tried to maintain high standards. Special mention must be given to Jim Morrison, 44 years as player, manager, secretary and treasurer, John Sayers 25 years, Dave Thornton 22 years and Tom Hynes 30 years . Without the commitment of these and others there would not have been a football kicked.

In 2006 the I-Zingari League merged with the Liverpool County Combination to form the Frank Armitt sponsored Liverpool County Premier League. The club plays in the Premier Division, which lies at Step 7 of the National League System.
