East Point, Dublin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
East Point describes an area close to Dublin Port in Dublin, Ireland.
It is located in the Dublin 3 postal district, however the area is not clearly or officially defined — just as many places in Ireland are not, largely due to the fact that Ireland does not use a universally resolvable (snail mail) postal addressing scheme incorporating postal codes. (Only Dublin has postal district numbers; no postal codes are used in the rest of the country). East Point is commonly understood to lie in the eastmost land area (largely reclaimed land) before Dublin Port (which lies yet further east). It is not commonly understood include the Dublin Port area. To the north, the part of Dublin bay which the Tolka river flows into divides East Point from Clontarf and Fairview. To the west, East Point does not extend further than the Alfie Byrne Road/East Wall Road intersection. To the south, the East Wall area borders East Point and it is here that the distinction is most unclear: The address to a house e.g. on the East Wall Road may be given as East Point, East Wall or even Clontarf or Fairview. (Any such variants are perfectly valid options as far as An Post is concerned.)
East Point is sometimes used synonymously with East Wall.
It is also (much more frequently) used as a synonym for the large and economically significant East Point Business Park.
