East Coast Road (ECR) is a scenic beachway in India connecting Chennai to Pondicherry through Mahabalipuram. The New Mahabalipuram Road was upgraded into a 4-lane highway with World Bank assistance and renamed the East Coast Road. The starting point of ECR is from Thiruvanmiyur. It is a city road till Uthandi, and the scenic beachway section starts as a toll-road. Many recreation centres and amusement parks are located along this road, most notably VGP Golden Beach Resort, Mayajal multiplex, MGM Dizzee World, Little Folks theme park, and the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust.
