East Asian Buddhism

East Asian Buddhism is a collective term for the schools of Buddhism that developed in the East Asian region, most of which are part of the Mahayana transmission. These include Chinese Buddhism, Korean Buddhism, Japanese Buddhism, and Vietnamese Buddhism.
The schools of Buddhism most prominent in Sri Lanka and the Southeast Asian countries is Theravada Buddhism.
Mahayana thought had originated in Indian Buddhist philosophers, whose teachings would filter into East Asian Mahayan.
