Earl of Orrery
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The title Earl of Orrery was created in 1660. The Earldom was united with the Earldom of Cork in 1753.
The Irish placename Orrery came from Gaelic Orbhraighe, which was at first the name of a tribe (Orbh-raighe = "Orb's people"), and then of a territory and a barony.
The 1st Earl of Orrery was created Baron Boyle of Broghill (Ireland) in 1628. And in 1642 he inherited the titles Viscount Boyle of Kinalmeaky and Baron Boyle of Bandon Bridge (1628, Ireland) from his brother; these titles were created with a special remainder to heirs of their father.
The 4th Earl was created Baron Boyle of Marston, of Marston in the County of Somerset (Great Britain) in 1711.
