Earl Cathcart

Earl Cathcart is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1814 for the soldier and diplomat William Schaw Cathcart, 10th Lord Cathcart. He had already been created Viscount Cathcart, of Cathcart in the County of Renfrew, and Baron Greenock, of Greenock in the County of Renfrew, in 1807, also in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. The title Lord Cathcart had been created in 1460 in the Peerage of Scotland for Sir Alan Cathcart, Warden of the West Marches and Master of Artillery. The present Earl is Chief of Clan Cathcart.

The family seat is Gateley Hall, near Fakenham, Norfolk.
