Earl Castle Stewart

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Earl Castle Stewart is a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created in 1800 for the 9th Baron Castle Stewart who became 1st Viscount Castle Stuart in 1793 and 1st Earl Castle Stewart in 1800. The Earl was related to the Marquess of Londonderry, another Irish peer. Lord Castle Stewart was descended from Lord Ochiltree, an illegitimate scion of the Stewart kings of Scotland. The second Baron Castle Stewart had already been created a Baronet in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia on 2 October 1628, before succeeding to the Barony the following year.

As of 30 June 2006, the present holder of the Earldom has not successfully proven his succession to the Baronetcy and is therefore not on the Official Roll of the Baronetage, with the Baronetcy considered dormant (for more information follow this link).
