Eamonn Magee aka The Terminator (born 13 July 1971 in Belfast, Northern Ireland) is a professional boxer.[1] He usually fights at Welterweight or the divisions either side.

The southpaw boxed for Ireland as an amateur and won a silver medal at the World Junior Championships at San Juan in 1992.[2]

[edit] Professional Career

Magee turned professional in November 1995, winning his first fight at the Point Depot, in which he knocked out Pete Roberts on an card that included Steve Collins and a debut fight for Dubliner Jim Rock.

Magee is a vetran of the British professional fight scene and he fights out of the Breen Gym in Belfast. Rock is a former Commonwealth Light Welterweight Title, Irish Light Welterweight Title and current WBU Welterweight Title holder. However, agrueable his biggest fight to date was against Manchester's Ricky Hatton for the WBU Light Welterweight Title which took place at the M.E.N. Arena, Manchester, England in June 2002. Magee knocked Hatton down for the first time in his career but lost this keenly contested fight on points over 12 rounds.[1]

Magee grew up in the strongly nationalist Ardoyne area of Belfast and was in and out of trouble as a youth. in 1989, Magee was invloved ina fight outside a restuarant and sustained a deep wound to has neck from which he almost died. Magee turned down a chance to fight at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics for Ireland after the Irish selection team requested that Magee fight a preliminary fight against a boxer who Magee had already beaten later that year he was shot in the leg by the IRA as a punishment for "getting up to no good". In 1994, Magee who is a Celtic supporter was charged with affray after getting into a baroom brawl with a group of Rangers fans in a Belfast City Centre pub. In February 2004 Magee attacked in the Black Road area of Belfast. He was pulled from his car and beaten with a baseball bat, he had his leg broken and knee fractured.[3]
