[edit] General information

Eagle River High is part of the Anchorage School District. In order to decide the school's colors and mascot, the school board let the students choose. High schoolers and middle schoolers who would be attending the school when it opened voted, with the results dictating a mascot as the Eagle River High School Wolves in navy blue and silver.

[edit] Campus

Eagle River High school is on a 50-acre campus which is situated on Yosemite Drive. The campus has a recreation trail surrounding it, and has a soccer field, a football field, and a baseball/softball field to the south of the school itself. The students park in the front of the school, while there is a road that leads to the faculty parking and bus drop-off zone in the back of the school. Also at the front of the school is a drop-off lane for parents needing to drop their kids off and leave without parking.

[edit] Building

The construction of Eagle River High School took about two years — beginning on July 31, 2003 and running until August 2005 — with the ribbon cutting ceremony on August 17th, 2005. The construction cost was $54 Million, paid for by school bonds. While only approximately 800 students currently attend the school, it was built with room to grow, as the gym, cafeteria, and library have a capacity to hold 1600 students. The building has the same basic floor plan and structure as the 1,600-student Dimond High School, but because Eagle River is about half the size, using one wing of classrooms instead of two. Using Dimond's floor plan allowed to lower design costs and ensure that no unforseen problems would surface during construction.

[edit] Academics

Electives offered at the school include aviation, AP classes, choir, band, team English, and history classes.

[edit] Athletics

Eagle River is part of Region IV, which competes with all of the other Anchorage-area schools. All primary Alaska School Activities Association-sanctioned sports are offered. During its first year of the school's existence (2005-2006), Varsity football was not yet offered with Junior Varsity football being the only option. Howevever, during the 2006-2007 season there was a varsity football team that went 0-8 and was ranked 23rd out of 25 in the state of Alaska.

Eagle River claimed its first athletic title in its very first school year taking the 2005-2006 ASAA softball state championship knocking off the two-time defending state champions Juneau-Douglas High School.
