E (S-train)

E is a service on the S-train network in Copenhagen. It runs between Køge and Lyngby every 20 minutes from about 5:00 to 1:00 every day. Until about 19.00 Mo-Fr and 16.00 Sa it continues from Lyngby to Hillerød, doubling the train frequency on the outer end of the Hillerød radial.

In the morning rush the service is supplemented by a few departures designated Ex going from Køge to Østerport only. Their stopping pattern are identical to E except that they do not stop at Friheden.

Service E is the continuation of the "fast" steam trains that ran between Copenhagen and Hillerød since the late 1800s. They acquired at service letter when they were replaced by S-trains in 1986. Later the main characteristic of service E came to be serving the outer end of the Køge radial.

An Ex service first ran from 1968, but was fused with service Cx in 1972. A new Ex line starte in 1983 servicing the Køge radial.
