The E-Series is a fictional group of robots in the Sonic the Hedgehog series of video games. They are created by the games' antagonist, Doctor Eggman (or Dr. Robotnik in the early western version) who uses them in his quest to conquer the world. Presumably, the "E" stands for "Eggman" or "Egg", though this is not known for certain.

[edit] E-100 Series

Unlike many of Eggman's robots in Sonic Adventure or previous games, the E-100 series were important characters in their own right. They were gunner robots, still in the developmental stages. The most prominent was E-102 Gamma, who was a playable character during the game. The names of the E-100 series are Greek letters. Strangly, at the begining of Gamma's story on Sonic Adventure, it shows the E-series robots with guns like his. but when you fight them they all have different guns.

[edit] E-100 Alpha aka ZERO

In Sonic Adventure, ZERO made his debut by chasing a blue Flicky in the possession of a Chaos Emerald that has taken refuge with Amy Rose. ZERO chased Amy around Station Square, at Twinkle Park, the Egg Carrier, Hot Shelter, and finally, the Final Egg base in the Mystic Ruins.

When he went back to the Egg Carrier, he saw Amy and the Flicky with the bird's relatives, who were inside E-101 Beta and E-102 Gamma. ZERO then attacked and knocked out the small Flicky. Amy, who was furious at him, attacked ZERO and finally destroyed him after smashing his head with her hammer, knocking him into an electric fence that fried his circuits.

ZERO's attacks include locking on to an enemy and extending his arm to punch, smashing the ground to create shockwaves, and swinging his extended arms around him. He can be temporairly disabled by smashing him in the face, although continuous attacks will cause him to grow so angry that smoke pours from his head like a smokestack, during which is is invulnerable. Although never referred to as an E-series robot during gameplay, on the Sonic Adventure website accessible via the Dreamcast's internet, he is referred to as E-100 "Alpha" in his character description.

ZERO also seems to make a brief appearance in Sonic Advance 2, chasing you around the pseudo 3D special stage. The manual however, describes him as Dr. Eggman's Guard Robot but he looks exactly the same. If he hits you, you lose 10 rings. In this game, when you complete all special stages with all characters, you unlock Amy. This may suggest that he captured Amy again prior to Sonic Advance 2, possibly following his original programming.

[edit] E-101 Beta (β)

E-101 Beta

E-101 Beta

E-101 Beta is a black robot that was created for the E-100 army. He has two homing missile-launchers for arms. Eggman defined Beta as Gamma's "older brother", and decided to pit Beta and Gamma against each other to determine which robot would leave the Mystic Ruins base to board the Egg Carrier. Gamma managed to defeat Beta, and Beta was relegated to the storage area to be used as "spare parts." Unhappy with his incompetent design, Eggman sent him to get remodeled into E-101mkII. The parts left over from the remodeling were used as spare parts for other E-series robots.

E-101mkII

E-101mkII

[edit] E-101mkII

Beta was reconstructed into a "Mark II (mkII)" E-100 model – an airborne fighter with improved weapon capabilities, including advanced homing missiles, laser cannon arms, and large spiked gauntlets used for bludgeoning "charge" attacks. Beta mkII navigated with a tail "rudder" and employed an advanced tracking system in his single green "eye". Its improved capabilities included the ability to create a rainbow-colored energy shield, fire a spread of several (ranging from 2 to 10) homing missiles, and fire powerful yellow energy blasts from great distances. It could also knock away hostile projectiles with its arms.

Gamma and the "new" Beta faced off once again aboard the downed Egg Carrier as part of the former's crusade to "rescue" his brothers from Eggman’s control. Beta, despite improvements, was defeated. But he would not go down alone – with what power remained, Beta blasted Gamma at point-blank range, destroying his brother and ironically completing E-102’s mission by freeing the animal trapped within him.

[edit] E-102 Gamma (γ)

E-102 Gamma

E-102 Gamma is a red robot with a missile launcher arm and a laser targeting device used for aiming. He was the third member of the E-100 series. Oddly, E-102 is the only robot of the E-100 series that did not begin life with a jet pack, though E-102 later picked one up in the Egg Carrier. Gamma was placed in Eggman's E-100 army after proving himself in a fight against his older brother Beta, and he excelled, more so than any of the other soldiers. He had a change of heart after meeting Amy, and decided to free the animals held captive within the remaining robots (this was shortly after being defeated by Sonic and Tails aboard the Egg Carrier, though in his own storyline, E-102 nearly defeated Sonic). Gamma was responsible for terminating E-101, E-103, E-104, and E-105 during the later half of its life. In the process of freeing the Flicky that powered E-101 Beta, Gamma exploded, thus releasing the Flicky within him. These two Flickies just so happened to be the parents of the little bird Amy had been protecting up to that point, thus ending both Amy Rose and Gamma's storylines.

There are robots called E-1000s in some stages of Sonic Adventure 2 who look like Gamma, except that they have two gun arms instead of one and fire low speed bullets. Otherwise Sonic Battle is the only other time the unlikely hero made a return appearance in the Sonic series, except for his role as one of the secret characters in Sonic Shuffle in which the game's description listed him as "revived with the power of dreams".

Chaos Gamma

Chaos Gamma

[edit] E-102 Chaos Gamma (γ)

E-102γ Chaos Gamma is the rebuilt version of E-102 Gamma that appears in Sonic Battle. He looks just like his original form, except his gun has been replaced by a hand and the "102" decal on his torso is gone, plus the headlight and light attached to its belt that was on the original Gamma's chest is missing (this was likely done to allow his sprites to face both left and right without needing new sprites for both directions). He can summon various weapons he didn't have before, including drills and electric shock prods which attach to his hands, and a grenade launcher which attaches from his shoulder (the grenade launcher also appears in his Story Mode pixel art). He serves Eggman, attempting to capture Emerl alongside the E-121s (mentioned below), but in the game's final story, he ceases to be hostile and allows Emerl to train with him for unknown reasons. He is a playable character in Challenge and Battle modes after the player defeats him in Sonic's story.

[edit] E-103 Delta (δ)

E-103 Delta
E-103 Delta

E-103 Delta is a blue robot with two cannons for arms. When Delta was sent away along with E-104 Epsilon and E-105 Zeta, he looked sadly at his brother, E-102 Gamma. Later, Gamma found Delta stranded in Windy Valley. The two brothers battled, and Gamma emerged victorious. Delta fell over and exploded. In the original Sonic Adventure, Delta's animal was a green flicky bird, but in Sonic Adventure DX, the animal was changed to a parrot. At first, Delta was based off Gamma with one cannon arm, but after being discarded by Eggman, he is based on Beta, meaning he had two cannon arms and a jet pack.

E-104 Epsilon
E-104 Epsilon

[edit] E-104 Epsilon (ε)

E-104 Epsilon is an orange robot with STINGER missile launchers for arms. Epsilon was teleported to an unknown location along with Delta and Zeta. Later, Gamma found E-104 Epsilon in a lava filled cave (the Red Hot Skull area) in Red Mountain. The two fought, and Gamma emerged victorious. The yellow flicky inside Epsilon managed to escape. Like Delta, Epsilon was first a recolored Gamma, but after he was sent away, he was equipped with a STINGER missile launcher on each arm.

E-105 Zeta
E-105 Zeta

[edit] E-105 Zeta (ζ)

E-105 Zeta was initially a purple robot identical to E-102 Gamma in every way (besides color), though it was later altered and reconstructed as a considerably larger stationary defense unit built into the core of the Egg Carrier, equipped with seven advanced missile launchers. Gamma fought and defeated Zeta in the Hot Shelter onboard the Egg Carrier, releasing the trapped animal inside. A Dreamcast console is included in Zeta's exterior design, inserted by Sonic Team as an Easter Egg. This is in all the Dreamcast, GameCube and PC versions.

In Sonic X, Beta replaced much of Zeta's role, so much that in fact, Zeta only appears on the show in Episode 31, "Revenge of the Robot". This is where Gamma comes to the Hot Shelter to destroy him.

[edit] E-121 Phi (φ)

E-121 Phi
E-121 Phi
Further information: Emerl

E-121 Phis are copies of the robot Emerl used by Eggman. There were 14 Phis which each copied an ability of Sonic and friends. They all were powered by Chaos Emerald shards and because of this Emerl destroyed them in order to get all the Emeralds. Also, Sonic Team made a mistake when naming Phi. According to the Greek alphabet numbering system used for the E-100 robots, E-101 is Beta, not Alpha. Therefore, Phi should be E-120.

[edit] E-123 Omega (Ω)

E-123 Omega

E-123 Omega was the last robot of the E-100 series, deactivated when Eggman began work on his E-1000s. It's the only playable robot in Sonic Heroes. After being reactivated by Rouge the Bat, he swears vengeance on Eggman for shutting him down. Omega is seen again in Shadow the Hedgehog where he and Shadow the Hedgehog infiltrate Eggman's base towards the end of the neutral story. He is also playable in Shadow the Hedgehog (in the GameCube version) using a second controller in the middle levels of the story mode. He is only a bit over four feet, several feet shorter than Gamma. Although he looks like E-102 Gamma, he possesses stronger and more numerous amounts of weaponry, as his intentions aren't anywhere near as noble. His latest appearance is in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) game for the next generation consoles.

Isaac

Isaac

[edit] Isaac

While not technically a member of the E-100 Series, Isaac is a robot from the Archie Comics series, and resembles a golden recolor of E-102 Gamma. He was created in the distant past by Professor Niven Clarke and was subservient to Dr. Ivan Kintobor. Activated when the Xorda launched their first assault on Earth/Mobius, he monitored Kintobor while he was in stasis in his bunker. Rediscovered by Shadow and Metal Sonic in the present day, he recounted his experiences of observing history from afar, including the first conquest of Mammoth Mogul and the coronation of the first king of the House of Acorn. Isaac is shown to maintain a nuclear launch silo beneath the bunker, and still tends to the dormant body of Ivan Kintobor. By unknown means, data was stolen from him by Dark Legion scientist Dr. Finitevus

It is possible there is a link with the SWATbot identified as Isaac by Ian Droid in SSS#7 but it is a myth that Robotnik stole the design for robots E-101 - E-106.

[edit] E-1000

The game Sonic Adventure 2 and its remake Sonic Adventure 2: Battle presented the E-1000. The E-1000 was a mass-produced variant of E-102 Gamma that served as a normal Badnik-style enemy, sporting a pair of cannon arms. Despite being paired for what may seem like double the firepower, the E-1000 line's weaponry, with low-velocity projectiles, and no homing feature, was generally far less effective than E-102's single missile launcher.

[edit] E-2000

Two more E-models appeared in the game Sonic Heroes, though by that time, Doctor Eggman had progressed to the E-2000 series of robots, namely the E-2000 itself. The E-2000 is a red humanoid robot armed with a powerful energy cannon and a shield, along with the ability to transform into a plane-like shape. The game also featured the E-2000R, a gold-colored variant of the regular E-2000 with extra armor.

[edit] E-10000

E-10000G

E-10000G

Sonic Riders featured yet another branch of the E-Series. This time, the E-10000 series. A difference in this branch is that they are referred to by color, as opposed to by name and number. The E-10000 robots appear to be similar in appearance to Egg Pawns, but more advanced. Except for color, they both seem to have the same, basic structure. They are also equipped with a targeting and analyzing mode, similar to what is displayed by E-102 Gamma. Also, excluding E-10000G and E-10000R, some of the robots that appear on the Egg Factory/Ice Factory courses have no legs (except E-10000B), nor boards, and are not playable characters.

Also note that both R and G models strongly resembles Mario and Luigi: they are fat, short and colored red and green.

[edit] E-10000R

E-10000R, also known as "Robo 1," is the red version of the E-10000 series. "R" is red, and is quite fast, making it a speed type. A nickname some fans have given it is "Robo Red" or "Elor", as they pronounce the 10000. In Story Mode, the E-10000R walks into a battle between Knuckles the Echidna and Storm the Albatross, and is severely damaged. It later appears to capture the heroes, with some visible damage left. E-10000R has the ability to split its head from its body to scare or strike opponents or simply punch them with its large fists. It is equipped with the same kind of engine parts as Metal Sonic. E-10000R's unique Extreme Gear is called the E-GearR, and it is unlocked as a playable character by playing for 50 hours.

[edit] E-10000G

Very similar to his "brother", except "G" or "Robo 2" is the green version of the E-10000 series, and unlike R seem to be massproduced. "G" is a power type character in the game. However, in Story Mode where they appear whenever other characters are not in a race, E-10000G can grind on the rails as though it's a speed character, as well as fly by moving on flight ramps, as though it was a flight character. It, like his counterpart, was given a nickname, namely "Robo Green". E-10000G is equipped with a large light in its body that it can use to blind opponents. E-10000G's unique Extreme Gear is called the E-GearG, and it is unlocked as a playable character by playing for 20 hours.

[edit] E-10000B

E-10000B is a robot seen in the Egg Factory used as an obstacle. It is tall, bulky and blue in color. Some have also referred to it as E-10000P, thinking the hue is a more purple color.

[edit] E-10000Y

E-10000Y is a robot seen in the Egg Factory used as an obstacle. It is small and yellow, and its main purpose appears to try and capture intruders in Eggman's base.

[edit] E-10000O

E-10000O is a robot seen in Ice Factory. It is, like E-10000Y, used as an obstacle. It is tall and orange in color, and its job is to spray ice around the factory.

[edit] Type Errors

On the American Sonic Riders website, E-10000G and E-10000R accidentally got their stats (or possibly bios) reversed, and the website claimed that G was speed and R was power. (It also listed them as "Robo 1" and "Robo 2") The Japanese website fixed this, but in E-10000G's bio, it said the name "E-10000R" instead and vice versa. When the game came out, G turned out to be power and R was speed.

[edit] Sonic X robots

Several robots from the E-Series appeared in the television series Sonic X. (Given differences between the Sonic X continuity and the continuity of the games, there may be some conflict between numbers.) They are as follows:

  • E-11 Beacon - Sonic X Episodes 4 & 12. Beacon is a purple bird robot, which Eggman first activated to help him retrieve a Chaos Emerald, but it is destroyed by Sonic. Eggman later activates a second Beacon model to help ward off an attack by G.U.N.'s air force.
  • E-12 Dreamer - Sonic X Episode 28
  • E-13 Guardbot - Sonic X Episode 1
  • E-14 Sneezer - Sonic X Episode 1
Sonic vs. Eggman's Guerra Hard robot.

  • E-18 Guerra-Hard - Sonic X Episode 13. A super powered combat robot, Guerra-Hard is powered by two Chaos Emeralds. Sonic is forced to battle the robot when he breaks into Eggman's base. Luckily, he is able to defeat it and capture the Chaos Emeralds inside. Bears a striking resemblance to the Super Robot Mazinger Z.
  • E-21 Ballion - Sonic X Episode 10: Baseball Bots. A team of athletic robots built for playing baseball. They challenge Sonic and co. to a game, the winner of which gets a Chaos Emerald. They are beaten and destroyed.
  • E-23 Missile Wrist - Sonic X Episode 3. Eggman unleashes it to cause havoc in Station Square, only for it to be destroyed by Sonic. Missile Wrist is equipped with missile-like grappling hooks attached to retractable cords in place of its hands.
  • E-35 Funfun - Sonic X Episode 12. A giant yellow bird robot with an equally gaint fan that is used to stop Sonic and his friends from getting a Chaos Emerald. It is powerful enough to blow away the X-Tornado.
  • E-38 Octoron - Sonic X Episode 9. An octopus robot that Eggman uses in order to try to drown Sonic. It fails and is destroyed.
  • E-39 Quizon - Sonic X Episode 9. An army of construsction robots with four arms with various tools. Eggman uses them to build a theme park in his image, and when Sonic arrives they combine into a long snake-like robot that is destroyed by Amy.
  • E-40 Egg Fortress - Sonic X Episode 15
  • E-42 Torole - Sonic X Episode 15. A bipedal walker robot armed with a wrecking ball.
  • E-43 Falcon - Sonic X Episode 15
  • E-45 Sumo - Sonic X Episode 21. Eggman sends Sumo, an extremely stupid robot, to stop Sonic from winning a race with Sam Speed. Too big and slow to catch Sonic, Sumo takes it out on himself, hitting himself in the face. Underestimating his own strength, Sumo is sent flying and crashes into Eggman's base.
  • E-47 Pumpty - Sonic X Episode 5. Not to be confused with Humpty, a robot from AoStH and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.
  • E-51 Intelligente (US)/Teacher Robot (Japan) - Sonic X Episode 6. Intelligente is a robot teacher designed to interact with kids, and Eggman intended for him to brainwash the children into liking him. However, Intelligente became loved himself, and did not want to serve Eggman. He was forced into it again, and the weaponless robot was destroyed by Sonic.
  • E-57 Clurken - Sonic X Episode 16. A jellyfish robot sent to sstop Sonic from acquiring an underwater Chaos Emerald.
  • E-65 Gorru-Gaooh - Sonic X Episode 18. A gorilla robot piloted by Decoe and Bocoe. It uses camouflage technology that renders it invisible, but Sonic destroys it regardless.
  • E-66 Da-Dai-Oh - Sonic X Episode 22. A gigantic robot that Eggman brings with him during his vacation. It looks like a large metallic dome with legs, arms, and a head where Eggman is seated. It had extendable arms and spiked balls for hands, but was destroyed when it slipped on some unsteady ground.
  • E-70 Noizi - Sonic X Episode 11. A robot equipped with super powerful sound wave generators, Noizi was set to guard Eggman's fortress. He nearly defeated Topaz and Rouge, but was bested when Rouge threw a bomb into its main speaker and set it off.
  • E-74 Weazo - Sonic X Episode 23. A large green weasel-like robot equipped with a flamethrower, Weazo comes along to help Eggman retrieve the purple Chaos Emerald. However, despite its power, it is beaten by a tag-team effort from Sonic and Knuckles.
  • E-77 Lucky - Sonic X Episode 25. Designed to be the ultimate lucky charm, Lucky's ridiculous and clumsy body is covered in good luck charm symbols. Lucky was dispatched to locate the seventh Chaos Emerald, but wasn't doing a good job because it kept falling over. Eventually, Lucky found it, and was going to give it to Sonic. Caught in a battle between Eggman and G.U.N., Lucky turned out to live up to his name, constantly dodging attacks that should have destroyed him. He also has the ability to fly. Lucky later appeared in a fighting tournament, and made it to the semi-finals because for certain reasons, such as his opponents never showing up or were forced to leave before fighting began. Unfortunately, his luck ran out when he had to face Emerl, as its victory dance burned out the remaining energy in his power cells and subsequently shut-down.
  • E-88 Lightning Bird - Sonic X Episode 24
  • E-90 Super Sweeper - Sonic X Episode 5. A giant spacecraft, Eggman dispatched it to suck up satellites to grind into robot parts. Equipped with powerful missiles and lasers, a powerful suction force, and the ability to fly higher and faster than Tails' Tornado, Sweeper was seemingly unbeatable. However, it was no match for the improved X Tornado, and was destroyed by Sonic. It looks remarkably similar to the airplane Thunderbird 2 from Thunderbirds.
  • E-91 Lady Ninja (US)/Ku-no-ichi (Japan) - Sonic X Episode 17. A robot based off of a female ninja, E-91 was equipped with shurikens, gliders, an electrocution net, a chain with a weight at the end that could either be small or turn into a wrecking ball, and an entire arsenal of different Ninjutsu techniques. The Lady Ninja was dispatched to retrieve the red Chaos Emerald, but ran into trouble in the form of Knuckles the Echidna and Rouge the Bat. Eventually, she had Knuckles on the ropes, but Knuckles' human friend Hawk dumped water over her. Taking advantage, Knuckles hit her with a super punch, destroying her.
  • E-99 Eggsterminator/Egg Fort 2 - Sonic X Episode 26. The robot form of the Egg Fort 2, Eggsterminator was unleashed by Eggman when he was facing both Sonic and G.U.N.'s Beetle robots. Powered by six Chaos Emeralds, Eggsterminator could move faster and attack stronger than Sonic. Unfortunately, all the power sent him out of control, causing him to attack Sonic and co. without hesitation and glow an orange color. However, Eggsterminator was destroyed when Super Sonic, charged up with the energy of all seven Chaos Emeralds, rammed through it multiple times. The Egg Fort 2 was either rebuilt or duplicated for use in the Grand Egg Imperial.
