[edit] History
DZBB was established in June 14, 1950 by Robert "Uncle Bob" Stewart, in a small office space in Calvo Building, Escolta, Manila with mostly second-hand equipment and an old radio transmitter. Despite of lack of new broadcasting facilities, the station has scored many milestones with its news breaking coverage, exclusives, and blow-by-blow accounts of major national events. It also pioneered on trendsetting shows such as Camay Theater of the Air, Tawag ng Tanghalan, Newscoop, Kwentong Kutsero and others. Some of these shows eventually went to television. DZBB was also the first to air live coverages extended not just to news and public affairs, but also to entertainment and educational programs.
Due to the success of DZBB, Bob Stewart ventured to television on October 29, 1961 as RBS DZBB-TV Channel 7 (Now known today as GMA-7 Manila). Channel 7 and DZBB were eventually sold to the triumvirate of Gilberto M. Duavit, Menardo R. Jimenez and Felipe L. Gozon in the 1970's.
The station was known as "Radyo Bisig Bayan" during the late 1980's and early 1990's. Their new identity made the station more popular to radio listeners in Metro Manila.
In the 1999, the station was renamed "Super Radyo" and much of their programming focuses on news and current events.
[edit] Programming
DZBB's programs are mostly news, current issues, and news analysis. Their morning radio shows were anchored mostly by famous and credible announcers since many people are listening to the radio before going to work or school. Their most famous radio programs are "Saksi sa Dobol B" hosted by Mike Enriquez, "Big Time Balita" of Rene Sta. Cruz, and "Dobol A sa Dobol B", anchored by Arnold Clavio and Ali Sotto. The radio program of Mike Enriquez is a spin-off of a news program on GMA Network he onced hosted: Saksi (Eyewitness).
The station also had a newscast entitled "Super Balita", four times during the day; morning, noon, afternoon and late night. They also simulcast the news programs of GMA Network: 24 Oras and Saksi.
