Dynamite Dux
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dynamite Dux is a side-scrolling 'beat 'em up' arcade game, created and released Sega in 1988 for their successful Sega System 16 arcade board, the same board that was used for hits like Golden Axe and Altered Beast. It was a moderate success and was 'ported' to the Sega Master System a year later.
Due to a poster, which features the character Bin, it is presumed that Dynamite Dux will be available for download on Nintendo's 'next-gen' console the Wii. This image is fan-man however.

[edit] The Game
The game uses a basic story, of a kidnapped girl Lucy (age unknown), kidnapped by the evil Sorcerer Aohoaha, the player must now rescue her.
[edit] Gameplay
The player controls one of two cartoon ducks, wearing bow-ties, either Bin [blue] or Pin [red] (they are Lucy's pets) through six stages set in real locations, though everything else in the game is very cartoonish, remenicent of Tex Avery. Two players can play at once, Bin is by default player one's character, Pin player two's.Each level ends with a boss battle. After stages 2 and 4 there is a bonus round where the two ducks box against one another with Colonel Sanders as a referee (he also cameos in Stage 1), winning will give 100000 points, if time runs out, the player with the most health will win and receive 50000 points. Dynamite Dux uses only two buttons, attack which will punch in a cartoon manor or throw or fire the numerous weapons, including rocks, bazookas and the game's signature weapon, bombs (hence the title) and jump. Unlike some of its contempary side-scrollers, Dynamite Dux allows players to attack in all directions, including diagonals and facing away and towards the player.
The game measures health using a status bar, unusually, at the bottom of the screen, made up of bars colour coded blue, yellow and red, which deplete when damage is taken, as well as the games varied set of enemies, all oddball cartoon characters, each level has a number of other obstacles that can inflict damage.
There are three types of power ups, Food, that replenishes health, weapons (all weapons will eventually 'expire') and treasure chests filled with gold, that give the player extra points.
[edit] Stages
- Stage 1: Down Town
- Stage 2: Japan
- Stage 3: Jungle
- Stage 4: Chicago
- Stage 5: Texas
- Final Stage: Achiacha
[edit] Master System Port
The game was ported to the Sega Master System in 1989, where the game was somewhat altered, due to the console's limitations in terms of graphics and sound (in comparison it the System-16 board) both are noticably inferior to the arcade original, the sprites are much smaller and different, and each character has less of them, many of the enemies unique dying animations are cut or altered, there are less weapons and power-ups per level, and less enemies. The story is also altered, instead of being her pets, Bin (Pin does not appear) is Lucy's boyfriend, transformed into his duck form by Aohoaha (similar to Toki - Going Ape Spit) though none of the characters are named in-game.
[edit] Bean The Dynamite
Bean the Dynamite was created by AM2 for Sonic the Fighters their Sonic The Hedgehog fighting game, released initially for arcades in 1995 (it was given a limited US release as 'Sonic Championship') and finally ported to home console in 2005 as part of Sega's Sonic Gems Collection compilation, Bean is based solely on the characters Bin and Pin from Dynamite Dux (though he wears a neckachief instead of a bow-tie and Sonic's shoes instead of regular sneakers) like several other one-off/b-list characters from the Sonic Franchise, such as Bark The Polarbear Mighty The Armadillo or Fang The Sniper Sonic fans continue to hope for his return, though like the rest, it is generally considered unlikely, even by those hopefuls. Bean also appeared in Am2's Sega Saturn fighting game Fighters Megamix as a bonus unlockable character (along with Bark The Polarbear) he is unlocked by completing the fourth arcade mode 'Muscle' and fought against in the final arcade mode 'Bonus'.
