Dykes from Hell is a group of righteous women that surfaced in the San Francisco Bay Area around 1992 to aggregate and amplify the loud and proud voice of lesbians both large and small. Often characterized by their plus size members and mullet hairstyles, the Dykes from Hell were fierce in the protest of the World AIDS Conference in 1992 and the discriminitory policies preventing people with HIV from traveling to the United States. These protests contributed to the decision by the international community of HIV treatment and prevention professionals to bar future World AIDS Conferences from taking place in the United States.
