screenplay

scene 1.

Montage- Extreme closeups of books. Some are school books, some are childrens books with strange

imagery, some have diagrams. Credits for the film appear as either sticky notes stuck into the

pages, or are done in post production as if they were part of the book.

The camera finally rests on the inside pages of a textbook and slowly pulls out to reveal SALLY.

Sally is reading the book when unexpectedly the bell rings. We see a wide shot of Sally, see a

backpack, suggesting that Sally is in a highschool studying (perhaps during a free period because

there are not that many other students.)

Sally stands up, and the camera follows her through the halls of the school on a dolly (ask Michael

from tech lab for rolling shelf type thing.) People off camera say hi to her. Cut to a behind the shoulder shot of her. A boy in front of Sally, wearing a dark

hoody to obscure his face has a partially open backpack. A book falls out of the backpack onto the

floor.

Sally reaches down to get the book, and as we pan back up, it is evident that the hall is either

empty.

Sally opens the book, as if to find out who it belongs to. The book is titled something weird, like

"when the devil ate the earth." Inside, she sees a bookmark, and turns to that page.

Close up of bookmark. It's a torn piece of paper, and written on it is three things:

• A strange symbol at the top
• a location
• a date in roman numerals: VI/I/VI

She appears to be confused by the piece of paper, and pockets the note, and sticks the book into her

backpack.

scene 2. Sally and a girl are trying on different clothes at her *house*?

Sally : My brother is being so weird right now. GIRL: Uh huh? Sally: something something VALERIE. I asked him to come get me from school and he never came. I

read for like an hour then just walked home.

VALERIE: Well, you only live 10 minutes away.

Val changes clothes as they continue talking

(referring to clothes) What do you think of this?

Sal: That looks good on you. But really I haven't seen my brother since *YESTERDAY?* He' s

probably off with his friends or something. Still he never used to forget about me.

Val: are you going to tell your parents? Sal: Nah, it's not that big of a deal. I don't want to be a tatttle tale. You ready to go yet?

Val: Can I just wear your jeans? (I don't want to look too dressed up.)

Sal: Yeah, ok. I was going to wear different ones anyway.

Sally goes into the closet to change. Comes out and hands Val the jeans. While Sally is out of

the room Val sees the book about cults. After V changes into the pants, they walk out into the

hall.

Sal: Hang on, I want to see if he's home yet. Knocks on a door with "Seth's ROOM" on it.

Sally: Seth, are you home yet?

Door opens to reveal an empty room. Reverse to Sally looking sad... She turns around and goes

bcack to room where Val is waiting.

Val: Find him? Sally shakes head.

Val: He'll turn up. Don't worry.. (reaches in her pocket and pulls out note.) What's THIS doing here?

Sal: What?

Val: I said, What is this?

Sal: Oh, I found it in some book a kid dropped. (walks over to look at it with Val. Val quickly

puts it back in her pocket.

Val (overly casual) Whatever.

scene 3. THE NEXT DAY

Sally's at school in the morning. Walking along she is joined by Val. Sally: You look tired. Val: I was busy last night. Sally: What were you doing? You left my house pretty late.

Val: Studying.

• CELLPHONE RINGS*

Sal: HELLO? Oh hi, mom,.. .no ... I don't have a clue where he is either. yeah. Love you too byye.

Sees her friend HENRY walking through a hall.

Sal: HENRY!!

He stops and turns around. Sal: Do you know where Seth is?

Henry: No, haven't seen him. Sal: Okay. Val: (gives H a funny look) We don't know where he is.

Henry: I'm sure he'll show up soon. (creepy smiling)

Sally seems confused; weirded out by the ordeal.

scene 4. Finds seth's backpack in a dumpster covered in mustard and junk. camera does a closeup of the initials of Seth.

Sally gets suspicious (starts furiously investigating.)

more scenes demonstrating her suspiciousness.

scene 5. at home Sally searches Seth's room for journal. She finds it in a secret place, like on his desk.

(danny doesn't beleive dominant males have diaries. maybe a day planner, calendar, blog?)

diary contains following: weird symbol from book. something about the strange group he learned about it should be the last entry.

After Sal sees the symbol, she slams the book shut, and starts asking everybody about the cult.

(danny doesn't think the word 'cult' should ever be used in the movie because it seems to spring-loaded and factory cut.... the group isn't just a bunch of goths or religious freaks, it's something ultimately insane.)

scene 6. at school again.

Sally looks around nervously.

Henry pops out of a corner.

Henry: BOOOOO! Sal: Oh god henry, oh I have to talk to you about something. Henry, Ok, what is it? Sally Have you heard anyhting about some cult that Seth was involved with ? Henry: A cult, are you kidding? I haven't heard anything.... Henry mocks asking the question to random people, doesn't get normal responses.

Sally, okay thanks; bye Sally walks away.

scene 7. with Valerie Sally sees Valerie. Sally: Valerie (runs to catch up) Val: Hey, calm down. What's wrong? Sal" weird stuff is going on, Val. I don't know hwat to do. Everyone's acting strange and I think something bad happended to Seth.

Valerie What are you talking about? Tell me everything.

Sally: I found Seth's diary. He said all this stuff about a weird meeting of a new organization. I asked his friends baout it and, I don't know, but somethings is going on, and no on'es seen Seth in like two days. I think somethings has happened to him and I don't know who to to tell. I mean my parents say he's at a friends house...

Val: Hey, hey, it's okay. Don't worry, I believe you.

Sall: You do? Val: Of course; I'm your best friend. You can trust me. But if Seth's really in trouble, what can we do about it? Sally: I guess you're right, but we should do something. Val: Like what? Sally: I dont know...

Val: Listen to me.. You're getting all worked up abou tnothing. Tonight you should just go honme and stay there. If Seth isn't back by tomorrow, then you should probably get your parents to do something. Until, then, just calm down ok? Are you going to be ok?

Sally: Yes, I guess you're right. I've had a lot of hard work at school, and I guess I'm getting overly stressed about stupid things. Goodnight.

scene 8. sally returns home

(moments of not deciding Somehow she reaches revelation and decides to get Seth. She is looking for keys - doesn't find keys - reaches in pocket - finds note - realizes to go where note says.

scene 9. traveling

sally rides bike to library Final showdown at the library!

sally walks through library, hears their voices, hides, peers through books. sees seth.

sneaks around trying to get Seth's attention. The cult members see Sally, Valerie comes through a group of people and reveals herself.

Sal: what are you doing here? Val: *creepy laugh* Isn't it obvious? Sal: It was you all along? Val: Of course.

Henry steps through and takes off his hood. Everyone else takes off their hoods. Seth is tied up

Sal: What are you doing?! What are you going to do with Seth? -points to Seth- Val: sacrifices have to be made! -shows knife- Sal: Valerie don't be stupid! Val: Stupid?! -goes off on monologue-

-cult members start walking towards sally -sally flees

CHASE THROUGH LIBRARY!!!! AL;SDFK JAL;SDFJ ;ASLDJFAS; DJK AS;KLDFJ

Sally gets stuck between bookshelves and cult members

members chant: join us....join us....join us.... Val: you gave us no other choice. join us...

...or DIE!

chant: join us...join us...join us.... -Valerie holds book, close up, shuts book!
