[edit] Nickname

In Lithuania, my mother brought an abandoned female kitten into our house (she kept meowing ouside for hours, until my mother couldn't stand it any longer). We named her Dunya, a common female name in rural Russia. A variation of that name is Dusya, or Dunka or Duska for short. When we moved to America, we had to leave our cat with my aunt, and I invented Dusik (a male transformation of Duska) to use as my internet nickname.

On several occasions, people have pointed out that Dusik is also a Korean name (although probably pronounced differently). I have certainly seen evidence of Dusiks on the Internet from other countries. Also, Samohyl Jan pointed out that dusík is the Czech word for nitrogen.
