Durganagar

Durganagar is a little suburb of Kolkata, though administratively under the district of North 24 Parganas.The town is about 16 km. from Sealdah station towards Bongaon and 1km. west to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport. It was named after goddess Durga.

It's a part of North Dumdum Municipality since 2000.Previously it was under Sultanpur Gram Panchayat.Its population is about 50000.Most of the people are Hindu and most of them are migrated from Bangladesh.Only about 2-3hundreds of Muslim population are residing to its eastern side. Main landmark of this town is Durganagar Rly. station, which is on the Bongaon line of the suburban railway network of Kolkata. Almost all other important places are nearby to the station.

There are 4 high school and 4 primary school there. Durganagar has nearly 100% literacy rate.there are 4 public library also. It has its own post office , a small market and several playground. Almost the whole population is constituted by 4-5 member small families with a single earning mamber. Almost all of them are survicemen (state/central govt. jobs) and commute daily to Kolkata through local train.
