Dura (linguistics)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dura is the name of a critically endangered language of Nepal, and of the ethnic group that historically spoke it. It belongs to the West Bodish group of Tibeto-Burman languages. The ethnic Dura people, whom the Nepal 2001 census numbered as 3,397, have mostly switched to speaking Nepali, and the Dura language has sometimes been thought to be extinct. The Himalayan Languages Project is working on recording the remaining knowledge of Dura.
