Talk:Duisburg
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I know nothing of Duisburg beyond what's in this article, but the sentence:
Duisburg is one of the most unattractive cities in Germany and ranks among the most hideous in the whole world.
needs to be balanced perhaps with input from the Duisburg equivalent of the Chanber of Commerce.
Duisburg is absolutely NOT one of the most hideous cities in the world! OK, it might not Berlin or London, but face it, it's an industrial place with the biggest Binnenhafen in the world. You can't possibly expect Eiffel towers and Big Bens! There's for example the Salvatorkirche, the Altstadt, the Landschaftspark and quite a few other places to see both in and out of the city. And for anyone interested in european industrial history, Duisburg (and the Ruhrgebiet in general) is the place to be.
Anyway, what does "hideous" refer to? I can blindfold you and take you to a very hideous place and when I take the cloth off I will tell you: this is London. And when you are back home, you will say: London is really hideous. Spazzo 06:45, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ruhrort merger
The Ruhrort article consists of little more than an outdated encylopædia article from the early 20th century. Maybe rewrite this a little, then put the pieces that remain into a seperate Ruhrort section on this page. --Doco 00:14, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
The article of Ruhrort is a shambles. It is not only outdated. There is also wrong information, eg. on the population at the time of the incorporation of Ruhrort into Duisburg. Whoever wrote that article he did not know anything he was writing about. Spazzo 06:51, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Duisburg Dockers
The "Duisburg Dockers" are an American Football - Team, they do not play Baseball! In fact, Baseball - Teams are hard to find in Germany, American Football is quite popular.
