Dub War was a four-piece heavy metal/nu metal band from Newport, South Wales, UK. Created in 1993, the band offered an innovative mix of metal, punk, and ragga, inheriting the punk-reggae legacy of The Clash and Bad Brains. Their lyrics were thoughtful and idealistic drawing comparisons with former, though musically they were closer to the hard rock sound of the latter. Some fans consider the band to have been pioneers of the new genre, ragga metal.
The Dub War experience was short-lived as the band split in 1999. This separation resulted from disputes with their label, Earache Records. Benji, Ginge and Jeff founded a new band, eventually known as Skindred (which Ginge and Jeff left in 2002). Jeff, Ginge and Richie now work together on a new project: Raw Bud.
