DTE Energy Music Theatre

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The DTE Energy Music Theatre (originally Pine Knob Music Theatre) is a 15,274-seat amphitheater located in Clarkston, Michigan. The theater's Grand Opening was in June, 1972 with an Andy Williams concert. However, a few days before Andy Williams appeared, there was a "pre-opening" concert featuring teen idol David Cassidy. Over the years many of the greatest stars in music have performed there. Chicago has appeared at this venue almost every year since 1972. The music theatre generally is the venue with the largest number of ticket sales in the nation.

At the August 15, 2006 James Gang concert, Joe Walsh stated that the James Gang were the first rock band to play the venue.

The DTE Energy Music Theatre is in the Pine Knob Golf Course and Ski Area complex; hence its original name. The amphitheater is owned by Palace Sports and Entertainment.

DTE Energy Music Theatre also hosts the Clarkston High School graduation ceremony, typically held at the end of May or beginning of June.
