[edit] Why write

3 Cheers for Dr. Zoidberg!

People like to write because they have interests, God, Devil, UFO, atheism, cows, heart disease, Anterior Cruciate Ligament , arthritis, you can write about your hometime. Dialects of French , Vous parlez francais? Vous pouvez aider en traduisant des articles de Français.

Another reason is to contribute , good karma, contribute to the body of knowledge. Who knows that a piece of information may help save lives, society, etc. It might even be good to edit war if you need to establish a fact. If you believe that the world is actually flat , investigate , be bold and write about your fact based investigation.

Is there really nothing that you can write about or article that you can edit? Do you want the links?

By the way when writing, don't copy and paste. You can however extract the ideas and rewrite. Read the article, don't look at it then write the same article from memory.

I believe that success doesn't come too much from luck but from grabbing every opportunity to develop and contribute like wikipedia. Then good things just pour in.

Another reason to write is to develop the skill. Who knows you could strike it rich if you become a professionally good writer!! Take the opportunity to develop your skill. Maybe if you become rich you could hire us and run a newspaper or magazine.

And you expand your knowledge as you research and write.

Best regards, --Jondel 00:38, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

  • How am I supposed to write? I'm blocked! DrZoidberg 01:48, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] What you can do on the encyclopedia that ANYONE CAN EDIT

Hi Doctor Zoidberg, you're unblocked of course - you've left a message on your own talk page. We actually want you to edit articles. Why? Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not just a playground. We edit articles - ANYONE can edit ANY article.

Go to any article and click on the "history" tab next to the edit this page button, and see how everyone does something different. Some people correct spellings, others add a single sentence to an article, some start short three-sentence articles, while others write whole paragraphs. You can do virtually anything - boredom is not existant on Wikipedia.

I recommend editing small articles that are about one paragraph long, because long articles may be confusing and overwhelming for new editors. Try editing articles and topics that you already know a lot about, like your hometown or neighborhood. Take, for example, this imaginary short article (stub):

Alacranes is a neighborhood in Pribyville, Texas, USA. It is located east of the neighborhood of Piggyback.

You can add stuff like:

It was formerly an unincorporated town.

To make:

Alacranes is a neighborhood in Pribyville, Texas, USA. It is located east of the neighborhood of Piggyback. It was formerly an unincorporated town.

Or you can add (meaning Scorpions in Spanish) to make:

Alacranes (meaning Scorpions in Spanish) is a neighborhood in Pribyville, Texas, USA. It is located east of the neighborhood of Piggyback.

There are a lot of other things you can do. Remember, be bold in updating pages. Welcome to the world of editing!

However, I do have a final warning for you. I have explained everything thoroughly enough for you to understand. Please don't pretend not to know what I'm talking about or that you can't edit articles. A few good questions are fine, but if you keep on ignoring me, I will have to conclude that you are an Internet troll who delights in posting nonsense and wasting others' times. Edit articles now and show that you aren't a troll. Last warning - if you keep on "trolling", you will be in for a permanent block. I don't want to see a fake excuse as your reply, or I will have to support your ban. — Stevey7788 (talk) 04:28, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

  • I am still blocked. My talk page is the only page I can edit, all other pages give me a "User is blocked" message when I try to edit. And apparently my talk page isn't an "article", so I guess this really doesn't count. DrZoidberg 12:48, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
    • Blocked users can edit their own talk page... not sure about other pages in their userspace, though. Y0u (Y0ur talk page) (Y0ur contributions) 18:08, August 4, 2005 (UTC)
      •  :::Could somebody please completely unblock DrZoidberg? We are actually telling a blocked user to edit! Please tell David Gerard to unblock him. — Stevey7788 (talk) 19:47, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

I've unblocked the DrZoidberg account, and placed a note to this effect on |WP:ANI so people don't see you editing and think "wasn't that guy blocked?" Please don't trash stuff, and do contribute. Contributing to Wikipedia is hopelessly addictive ... - David Gerard 22:16, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

Now that you're unblocked, you can start editing articles. Let the fun begin! As David said, article editing can really get addicting, just like sandbox contributions. — Stevey7788 (talk) 23:08, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] But...

There's nothing left for me to contribute! Everything I know is already in Wikipedia!  DrZoidberg 12:51, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

  • You don't have to make new articles to contribute. Wikipedia:Maintenance has some good ideas of things to do. And perhaps you could improve the Doctor Zoidberg article. :-) the wub "?/!" 13:00, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Fix typos and revert vandalism

That will be good.

[edit] Let me repeat myself....

[edit] Let's write articles!

Good boy, Zoidberg. I have no intention of being your enemy, and I really want you to know that you can still play in the sandbox, but you MUST contribute something. Be bold. Don't think you'll make mistakes when you edit articles.

Be bold, Zoidy!
Be bold, Zoidy!

Click on the Random page tab on the left-hand corner, edit articles (whether fixing article mistakes or expanding articles), and enjoy your edits. I'm not saying that you can't edit the sandbox now - fun is an important part of Wikipedia, but don't overdo it. Play with Fonzie Fan, post your Spongebob images in there, fool around with Jondel's LAZY KAT and "George Strassor" - but contribute to Wikipedia while playing in the sandbox. Feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you have more questions. Thanks! — Stevey7788 (talk) 20:05, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

Let's all forget what you did - you dumped lots of useless text, vandalized templates, etc.; but now I trust you've learned and won't ever do these mistakes again. I am glad to see a new Zoidberg, a more mature Zoidberg - but don't forget sandbox fun! Be someone like Jondel: Get wild in the sandbox, edit articles and enjoy life. Happy editing! — Stevey7788 (talk) 20:13, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

DrZoidberg, you seem to be ignoring what I've written to you. If you don't mind, I will repeat this for the THIRD time. This message is clearly presented, and if you continue to pretend not to know what I'm talking about or if you are still making silly excuses, then I'll have to support a permanent block for you. [edit] Cars, jumper cables, batteries

ARe you good with cars, jumper cables?--Jondel 00:34, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

  • I own a car. But I've never needed jumper cables for it, so I guess my answer would be no.  DrZoidberg 02:39, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
    • Yeah, well articles seem to write themselves through me. I wonder about something. Check if it already exists in wiki. I gather material, organize it and rewrite, thats all. Right now, I 'm writing about Arbularios. They are the village medicine man. Medical doctors are very expensive for very poor people in the Philippines, so they tend to go the arbularios.--Jondel 05:14, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
    • I would appreciate any help to rewrite these two articles:Filipino Muslim and Sultanate of Sulu. Thanks--Jondel 07:46, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
      • I have never heard of either of those..  DrZoidberg 12:48, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

That's right. A lot you can do on Wikipedia. There is so much to do, that in fact, you can't ever get bored with articles. — Stevey7788 (talk) 21:49, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] You're doing it again

I'm afraid DrZoidberg has absolutely ignored our requests for him to edit articles. He is back at huge sandbox text dumps again. [2] Why are you doing this again once unblocked, DrZoidberg? — Stevey7788 (talk) 23:37, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

Besides, look at DrZoidberg's contributions. No article edits. — Stevey7788 (talk) 23:37, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

I honestly don't have anything you call "useful" to contribute! Geez, let me finish my degree in astrodynamics first!!  DrZoidberg 18:12, 11 August 2005 (UTC)

Maintinance Zoidberg. You can't edit now, but it was always there. Father Howabout1 Talk to me! 18:48, August 11, 2005 (UTC)

Zoid, jeez, can't you do things like wikify?, e.g. degree -> degree, This is one of the eeeeeasiest contributions. I have'nt checked but I think even the has an article. Also there are pleeeeeeenty of spelling mistates all over wikipedia like seperate -> separate. Sorry, things have to be this way.--Jondel 00:08, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

Please do study astrophysics and have fun at it. I hope you don't loose your vim just because rules are rules. If you can have fun while living with-in the rules then you have nothing to worry about. --Jondel 00:37, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Goodbye

It appears my supporters here are clearly outnumbered by my enemies. For this reason, I have decided that as of immediately, I am no longer a Wikipedian. I will no longer attempt to convince others to repeal my block. I will continue to read my talk page occasionally (and possibly respond) for the next couple of weeks.

[edit] A few personalized goodbyes

  • Jondel - Thank you for your support through all of this. I must apologize for dragging you into all of this, as I have come to realize that your goals here on Wikipedia seem to be slightly different from mine. Congratulations on your recent promotion to administrator and keep up the good work.
  • Righteous Monkey - Without me, Wikipedia will need others to maintain the required humor/oddity level of the sandbox, as well as vandalize my user page. Keep the Sandboxians alive!
  • Fonzie Fan - Fonzie has taken my consciousness! And he might me a Communist too...
  • Jimbo Wales - Is Wikipedia for sale, or will it ever be? I would be willing to make a generous offer. If not, may I have some more info on Wikipedia stock options?
  • Willy on Wheels - Have you ever considered mobilizing the Sandbox?
  • All others who expressed their support - Thank you for your concern. Keep the Sandbox exciting!
  • Everyone else - Although I had my share of entertainment in the Sandbox, I must apologize for breaking the Wikipedia:No fun allowed rule, as I was not aware of its existence.

[edit] Noooooo!

Of course breaking the sandbox is a Bad Thing, but I'd just like to thank you for all the humour you brought to it. I know people have mentioned it before, but I'm sure there's a place for you at Uncyclopedia. Who knows, maybe you're already there. I'll miss you, you ker-azy person. the wub "?/!" 08:48, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Zoidberg!!!NO!!!!!!

I have to say that my interest in Wikipedia was partially sparked by seeing how into-it people got when trying to convince you to get out of the sandbox. You brought humor to the editorial staff of an encyclopedia. Not many people can lay claim to that.... Here's a quote to honor your exit from Wikipedia. --jonasaurus 19:54, 13 August 2005 (UTC)

  • Zoidberg: I'll have a look but I warn you, I'm an expert on humans, not robuhts.
  • Fry: Er, I'm not Bender, I'm Fry.
  • Zoidberg: Really? I thought you were the robuht.
  • Fry: Nope, human.
  • Zoidberg: Alright, alright, spare me your life story.

[edit] Hmm....

Hey DrZoidberg, check out http://uncyclopedia.org/ . It's where nonsense lives all day long. Everybody will love you there. Wikipedia is a place for serious nerds like me to hang out, but Uncyclopedia is where jokesters live. I hope I'll see you there! — Stevey7788 (talk) 18:42, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

You can also invite your sandboxian friends to the Uncyclpedia sandbox, which seems to be designed just for sandboxians. It's currently a little bit lonely, so some Wikipedia sandboxians could as well make the move to the Uncyclopedia. If you want me to invite your friends to the Uncyclopedia sandbox, post it here on your talk page and I'll do it for you. :p — Stevey7788 (talk) 21:23, 18 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] sockpuppets

I have always had faith that you could come back and make legitimate edits but I must honestly say I am not impressed by the fact that you are using sockpuppets like User:Drzoidberg to evade your ban, using sockpuppets will decrease the chance that you'll be trusted to make legit edits if unblocked and thus more likely that you will remain blocked.
