Both are neutral as to the justice of a drumhead court martial. I think that the tone of the encyclopedia article should be the same or at least acknowledge that while in haste, such a court does not have to be inherently unfair. TMLutas 03:44, 14 July 2006 (UTC)


The term seems to be used neutrally in Herman Melville's Billy Budd. The point of such a trial is illustrated in that work: Fairness to the organization above fairness to the individual. Also, in that usage, it is similar to the modern military terms "non-judicial punishment" and "summary court martial."
