Drimnagh Castle Secondary School first opened its doors in 1954. The school buildings are located directly beside the old Norman castle. At the time, all students were taught by Christian Brothers although as the years passed the numbers of Brothers teaching in the school has decreased. There are currently no brothers teaching in the school. The vast majority of students come from the Drimnagh Castle Primary School but a good deal of pupils come from other schools in the area as well as other schools in the surrounding suburbs.

The current principal of Drimnagh Castle Secondary School or Meanscoil Iognaid Ris is Dr. Ray Walsh
