Hi Dr. Haggis. Since you are from Calgary, I'm not really sure if you are a Flames fan. However I'm quite disappointed that Peter Maher does not have a wikipedia page dedicated to him, not only is a superb radio play by play announcer, but he has now been inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame and is a terrific Calgarian. As a fellow citizen, I would ask you to strongly consider starting such an article.
Regards, TC

[edit] Kilt
Have to say it was my doing adding the "Scottish Kilts - Historical Development" link to kilt - agreed that it has inaccuracies, not least saying English when it means British, but I thought it had some useful thoughts especially on the association with lowland poverty and the royals taking it up. However, now it's annoyed me by asking for a password so it's been deleted. Ta for the edit, orrabest - dave souza 06:25, 14 Oct 2004 (UTC) (ps ah'm scotch anaw)
- Look forward to development of this article, the kilt thing has changed a bit since I had one. With the Gourock highland games nest door, the Cowal games filling the Dunoon ferries annually and wedding photies in the park we see kilts quite often. The boy got an ex army kilt in the barras (Glasgow street market) which is of the old weight, the new ones are much lighter. Glad there's a highland scene where you are - may I refer you to Calgary, Mull.. dave souza 19:39, 16 Oct 2004 (UTC)
[edit] French disambig
I noticed on Wikipedia talk:Disambiguation pages with links that you've been disambiguating links to "French" in May 2004. This was before the page French people was created, perhaps some of those links need an update? --Joy [shallot] 12:13, 27 Oct 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Article Licensing
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] Calgary Wikipedian Meet Invite
I'm inviting all the Wikipedians who are listed as Calgarians to get together for a casual, in-person, chat about Wikipedia and whatever else strikes our fancy.
I've got a Meetup.com group set up that we can use to organize local meets. (the fees are covered for a while by my Meetup+ membership carrying over into the new fee regime.) Please sign up for that group, or post a message to my talk letting me know if/when you might be available for a Wikipedian meet. --GrantNeufeld 02:19, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Commonwealth English versus American English
I've noticed that you recently edited Lightsaber combat in favor of Commonwealth English. Please stick to American English, as it is the original article's spelling, and it is the spelling mainly associated with English Wikipedia. —qrc 22:52, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for cleaning up my user page
I'll see how my home page does for a bit before I protect it. I have some faith in humanity. The wiki is meant for all Wikipedians to be able to edit, and that includes my homepage. -- JamesTeterenko 23:11, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Heads up
I and other users have encountered persistent vandalism and an unwillingness to respolve disputes with User:Ruy Lopez, whom you encountered on the Giuseppe Pinelli article; this includes vandalism through the use of sockpuppets. I would be interested in hearing if you should encounter more problems. Thank you. nobs 18:53, 29 July 2005 (UTC)

Excellent! Lets use the Template talk:Starwars to discuss the contents of the template and hold off on any futher edits of it until we can come to something we can all live with. - Dr Haggis - Talk 22:14, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
All right. Copperchair 03:15, 18 August 2005 (UTC)
I think your proposition on listing "Shadows of the Empire" and all other non film and TV ventures as "Miscellaneous Projects" is a great idea. Copperchair 07:05, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Shadows of the Empire
You seem to insist that Shadows of the Empire is a film. Who was in it? Who directed it? What kind of camera was it filmed with? - Dr Haggis - Talk 22:47, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
- No actors were in it, only characters, it was directed by various authors, artists, compers, marketers, and such. It wasn't shot on a camera, it all has to be imagined. It is a film-esque type of project, of which no other star wars project, or any project for that matter, has come close to being. It is extremely close to a film, which is why I list it in the category. I'm not saying it is a film in the regular way, but listed it because of its similarity to a film. Adamwankenobi 23:25, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Disturbing?
That was not my sense of humor exactly, that's how I really felt about it on the pedophilia article. Adamwankenobi 14:19, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Commonwealth English
It occurred to me this morning (in the shower of all places) that music of Nigeria ought to use whatever spelling conventions are used in Nigeria, which I suppose is probably the same as British spelling. So, your edit comment on that articles was prescient... I'll try and make the switch tonight if someone doesn't beat me to it. Tuf-Kat 16:01, August 27, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
Thank-you for your congrats on my award - it was weird when I found out that it is such a formal thing with full medal standing and all that. Thanks, also, for updating my bio page. --GrantNeufeld 22:53, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Wikimedia Canada
Hi there! I'd like to invite you to explore Wikimedia Canada, and create a list of people interested in forming a local chapter for our nation. A local chapter will help promote and improve the organization, within our great nation. We'd also like to encourage everyone to suggest projects for our national chapter to participate in. Hope to see you there!--DarkEvil 17:11, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem
Hi, and thanks for uploading your image of an ice cream cake. This image was released under a non-commercial license, and is now tagged for speedy deletion. If you have permission to release this image under a free license, please update the page promptly.
Also, please do not mark images with a license other than the actual license that they are released under as it creates copyright problems for Wikimedia. Stifle 17:55, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] On Editing Science Fiction Conventions
Thanks for the comment about introducing an abreviation before using it. I think of SF, which can be read as Speculative Fiction or science fiction, as a general term that includes science fiction and fantasy, whereas it seems you do not. SF is used in many circles to be inclusive of science fiction and fantasy (as it says in the wikipedia article on the topic), as well as other related genres, such as comics. When you say that all of these kinds of conventions have fan guests, to me that is synonymous with saying all kinds of SF conventions have fan guests. Also, you are wrong. Most Comicons (comics conventions) do not feature "Fan Guests of honor" the way sf cons do. SF conventions are unique among kinds of conventions (they are very different from a lot of more mundane conventions, especially). Science fiction conventions are not unique from fantasy conventions, in this regard. SF includes science fiction, fantasy, horror, etc. The term science fiction convention is often used in an inclusive way itself, as it is, so far as I can tell, in the article.
I'm not going to keep trying to insert a reference to what I think is a rich and useful term if you are going to keep erasing it, so I thought I would just leave this comment for your consideration. If you'd care to converse more about it, I'm netmouse at netmouse.com.

[edit] Image:Haida Totem pole.jpg
Hi, thanks for your image, however, it's named incorrectly. It's not a Haida pole, but a Kwakwaka'wakw pole, as can be seen at the official website of Thunderbird Park. I've put in a request for it to be moved at commons where it now resides. heqs 17:11, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
This image was moved to Image:Kwakwaka'wakw house and pole at Thunderbird Park.jpg. heqs 13:59, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! Sorry for the mixup. However it turns out I had already renamed this image last July. It is now redundant with Image:Totem Pole Thunderbird Park Victoria.jpg How to resolve? -Dr Haggis - Talk 23:23, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
I've taken the liberty of switching the file links that linked to it, to the commons version with the more specific name. We can now list the en.wp version for deletion, if you don't mind. I think it's generally favored to have free images on commons rather than just on en.wp (that's why someone copied the original image there, etc). Sorry for the trouble by the way. heqs 08:00, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Lost issue
Hey thanks for your post about the Alexa rankings. I don't want to try and rally troops or anything (I concede it would be counterproductive) but there's a debate on the Lostpedia topic at WP:DRV#Lostpedia. If you feel strongly either way, jump in by all means - and I won't take offence if you vote for it to stay deleted lol, just thought you might like to know seeing as you've expressed interest. [edit] Concrete blocks
Hi. Do you know if the block in the picture, Image:Cinderblocks.jpg are actually "cinder blocks", i.e. made with cinders. I think that is kinda rare and most modern construction uses concrete block. Reason is I am adjusting this article, Concrete Masonry Unit and want to rename the picture. Thanks --Justanother 21:33, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Sure. -Dr Haggis - Talk 15:50, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sure, I can change the name? --Justanother 16:40, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yes please. I only called them cinder blocks colloquially, which does not fly for image names. -Dr Haggis - Talk 17:36, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] One-man band and Lemon Demon
I noticed your change to the aforementioned article and was just going to ask you about this. According to the Lemon Demon myspace, "Neil Cicierega writes and records all of this music." He then goes on to list "live" members of his band. I'm guessing that he records all his own music in the studio (playing guitar and bass and programming drums) and then at live performances he has real members. Does this still qualify him as a "one-man band"? Taylor 08:03, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- No. As the article is written a "one-man band" is someone who plays more than one instrument at a time. So my addition of Jonathan Coulton is wrong too. I will remove it. -Dr Haggis - Talk 16:51, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
