[edit] Plot
At Winfred-Louder, Mr. Bradbury, one of the members of the board of directors, is forced to retire after forty years of service to the company. Once Drew, Mimi, and Larry learn about his dismissal, they all reveal their ambitions to take his place on the board. Mr. Bradbury's position requires little work and earns great pay and benefits. To help improve his chances of filling the position, Drew goes to a bookstore with Kate, Lewis, and Oswald to buy a business management book. He hopes that by following the book's tips on gaining an edge in business he will easily get his spot on the board. Back at Winfred-Louder, Drew follows many of the tips such as making eye contact and dressing professionally. Mimi attempts to demean him by telling him that he is not qualified to fill the position. However, while insulting Drew, she acctually offends Mr. Wick. With the book's tips, Drew is able to impress Mr. Wick and several other members of the board. At the Warsaw Tavern, Drew and the gang discuss the effects of the book and they watch as Mimi attempts to woo one of the board members to increase her chances of getting the position. When a person entering the bar tells everyone that a street sweeper hit a car, most of the bar empties as people check to see if it is their car. Mimi watches as Drew leaves and snatches his management book and leaves the bar out the back door. Back at Winfred-Louder, the three candidates sit at various tables in a dining room with the members of the board. Mimi and Drew both follow the rules of the book exactly and both impress the board members. However, Larry arrives late and acts disrespectfully to everyone. When Mimi and Drew see this, they believe it is down to them and increase their determination by continuing to follow the book perhaps too well. Mimi offends several members of the board, and Drew gets into an fight with one of the waiters. Drew is then shown clearing off his desk in his cubicle, thinking he will not get the position. However, he believes the board just wants someone fun so he performs several magic tricks in front of the board as they exit Mr. Wick's office. Although they are impressed with the tricks, they tell Drew and Mimi that Larry is going to fill the new position. As the board leaves, Mimi and Drew confront Larry and ask him how he got the job. He unenthusiastically reveals that he slept with Mrs. Louder to get the promotion. Although Mimi and Drew are disappointed, they are both glad that the other did not get the job. At the conclusion of the episode, Mr. Bradbury attempts to return to his job by entering the store disguised as a woman but is soon caught by security guards.

[edit] Quotes
(the candidates discuss the benefits of the open job position)
Larry: And what's the job pay? Like $50,000?
Mimi: Wow, that's an awful lot of dough for sitting on your ass.
Drew: It's the American dream: ass dough.
(after Oswald realizes how expensive books are at the bookstore)
Oswald: They should...have a place, like a book store, where you can borrow a book for a few days and return it...like a video store.
(Drew blankly stares at him)
(Drew is staring at his self-help managament book)
Drew: I've never said this about a book...I want you.
Oswald: Somewhere a swimsuit issue is crying.
Mimi: Move over. I need a drink.
(Drew puts his finger to his head and imitates Johnny Carson's character, Carnac the Magnificent)
Drew: What your date said to you tomorrow morning.
(he blows into his napkin, pretending it is an envelope as Mimi snatches it)
(Mimi steals Drew's management book, and is looking to escape the Warsaw Tavern)
Mimi: Can I use your back door?
Mike: Actually, I prefer it.
Mrs. Louder: AHHH! A shrimp fork in the olives. Are we barbarians? (looks at the waiter) You're fired! Now let's have a lovely meal.
(Mimi and Drew are curious as to how Larry got the job over them when announced by Mrs. Louder)
Mimi: (joking) What'd you do, sleep with the old broad?
Larry: Yes...yes I did.
Drew: Oh my god!
Larry: Yep, people talk about doing it. And I did it.
