The Dresden S-Bahn is providing commuter train services in Dresden and in the Dresden agglomeration. It has been established in 1973 and operates three lines. It connects many districts of Dresden as well as Meißen, Radebeul, Pirna and the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, the Dresden Klotzsche Airport, Freital and Tharandt.

The network is about 103 kilometre in lengths and has 38 stations (from which are 16 in Dresden).

Normally trains are insisting on an electric locomotive and up to five bilevel cars. A specialty are the stations that are granting direct access to the Weisseritz railway and Radebeul-Radeburg line narrow-gauge railways.
