Prof. Dr. B.K. Singh is a western trained medical doctor and a post graduate acupuncture specialist living in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He is the Founder and President of the International Acupuncture Academy of Bhupendra Techniques, Director of the Indian Acupuncture Centre in Allahabad, India, and Chairman of the International Institute of Acupuncture. During his 35 years of clinical practice he has travelled to over 40 countries conducting workshops, seminars, and training and treatment camps.

Based on his extensive clinical experience and knowledge of both eastern and western medical philosophies, he has developed his own acupuncture techniques for treating chronic patients and successfully treated many intractable diseases. His treatment involves Bhupendra Stimulation and Massage Techniques, and Bhupendra Points.

He is often known as the "Father of Acuvaccination" and has several original theories to account for health related issues.

[edit] Biography

Dr Singh was born into a respected family in Allahabad, India, on September 4th, 1945. His grandfather was a landlord and his father was a government Deputy Commissioner. Due to the transferable nature of his father’s job, his basic education was completed in various cities in north India. After graduating from Science in 1966, he was selected to join King George’s Medical College in Lucknow, India, and completed his M.B.B.S in 1971. He did his Internship in 1972 in Colvin Hospital, Allahabad, and was awarded "Best Doctor" for performing the most vasectomies in the shortest amount of time.

During his medical studies he became interested in acupuncture, and after reading an article in a 1968 issue of Reader’s Digest, learned the basics of acupuncture. His first formal instructor was a Lama who taught the ancient art of healing in a very traditional way. Upon graduation from medical school, Dr. Singh joined government service as a medical officer and worked with the World Health Organization during the small pox eradication program. In between, he visited several far east countries to learn more about acupuncture and integrated this into his private practice after resigning from government service in 1974.

He established the Indian Acupuncture Centre in 1981 and started devoting more time to acupuncture research. In 1983 he founded the International Institute of Acupuncture bringing many European and Asian acupuncturists together into one association. During a world acupuncture congress in Colombo, 1982, he released "Acupuncture Pulse Diagnosis". Later, during the European Acupuncture Symposium in Stockholm, he also released "Acuvaccination", his original work on the preventive aspect of acupuncture. His research paper on "Scleroderma" and "Waste-End Products" was highly appreciated at the 2nd National Symposium on Acupuncture, organised by the All China Society of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, held in Beijing in 1984. In 1985 his research paper "Acupuncture - It’s Origin in India" was judged "Best Paper" in the 4th World Congress on Oriental Medicine held in Kyoto, Japan.

Dr. Singh has published 17 books on acupuncture and other health related subjects, over 117 research papers, delivered key note addresses, and chaired several scientific sessions in many international congresses all over the world. He has appeared on several TV and radio programs, including the BBC. He has also played an important role in many organizations as a judge, examiner, and policy maker. He is an international speaker, visiting professor, and fellow member of several national and international organizations.

Dr. Singh never uses any western, herbal, or homeopathic medicines while treating his patients with acupuncture. He has treated many international personalities including business tycoons, film stars, models, politicians and members of royal families using his points, theories, concepts, and techniques. He diagnoses a patient’s disease pattern using pulse diagnosis, and treats the person as a whole by taking into account the lifestyle, food habits, and emotional, psychological, environmental, cultural, and spiritual factors influencing the disease process.

Dr. Singh is the eldest child in a family of four. He has three younger brothers. As a child, Dr. Singh was restless, full of energy and original thinking, and never hesitated to express his opinion. He was very much admired and loved by every member of his entire family. Throughout his schooling years, he was always more interested in extracurricular activities such as sports, reading various books on different subjects, writing, and travelling. His favourite games included badminton, table tennis, and lawn tennis. He started writing at a very young age and his first poetry was published when he was in 8th class.

Dr. Singh received a Bachelor of Science degree from Barielly College, Barielly, and an M.B.B.S., from King George’s Medical College, Lucknow, India. He earned his Ph.D. in Colombo, Sri-Lanka, on his book "Pulse Diagnosis". He also received a D.Litt. and a D.Sc. from Stockholm, Sweden, from his research papers “Acuvaccination”, and "The Treatment of Azoospermia by Acupuncture Using Bhupendra Points", respectively.

Dr. Singh’s travelling interest began at an early age, fostered by his father. He has travelled throughout India and to over forty countries globally. His travels include places such as the UK, US, Holland, Sweden, Denmark, Russia, Australia, Japan, Korea, Sri Lanka and India.

Many international awards and accolades have been bestowed upon Dr. Singh for his humanitarian and research work. These include the "Albert Schweitzer Award in Medicine" (Holland), the "Fellowship for Professional Excellence" by the Dag Hammarskjold Award Committee (Denmark), a Service Knighthood (Australia), a "Certificate of Honour" (University of San Francisco and Moscow), Gold Medals for outstanding contributions to acupuncture (Sweden), the "Gem of Alternative Medicine" (India), a "Best Paper" award (Japan), and a "Best Doctor" award (India).

About 3/4 time of the year Dr. Singh treats patients and teaches his own techniques at the International Acupuncture Academy of Bhupendra Techniques, located in Vancouver, Canada. The rest of the time he travels and organizes international treatment and training camps with collaborators.
