This is an error, Drakes Bay on the contrary was not named after Sir Francis Drake. The Spanish discovered it in 1602 by Vizcaino prior to San Francisco and a Spanish ship sank there in 1595 by Cermeno. It was named after St. Francis like San Francisco, where as when English map makers by the name of Henry Briggs discovered it renamed it Puerto de Francisco Drako, not Spanish at all. What Bay Sir Francis Drake did discover, some would argue is modern day Bodega Cove about 68 miles north of San Francisco, as with much evidence one man Bob Graham would analyze. [edit] Class and importance initial ratings

Rated this a stub since it is too short for higher class. Classify this as high in importance due to its very high biological productivity (including IBA within pt reyes), importance in history, and high visitor value as part of pt reyes natl seashore. (could even be a "top", but ill wait for someone else to promote it. Anlace 22:08, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
