Drawing Restraint 9 is a feature-length art film by American artist Matthew Barney, dealing with the relationship between creativity and self-imposed resistance. The film is only a portion of a greater art piece, the ninth in Matthew Barney's ongoing Drawing Restraint series, which he began in 1987.

Shot in Nagasaki Bay, the film is set aboard the Japanese whaling ship Nisshin Maru. On board is a vast sculpture of vaseline entitled "The Field", which continually transforms during the film, most representing the oceanic theme of the work. The lead characters, known as "The Occidental Guests", are played by Matthew's partner Björk and Matthew Barney himself. There is only one moment of dialogue within the 135-minute film — during the tea ceremony — which explains the history of the Nisshin Maru vessel.

The soundtrack for the film was composed by Björk and was released on One Little Indian, July 25, 2005. It features the shō (Japanese mouth organ) playing of Mayumi Miyata.

Drawing Restraint 9 premiered at the 62nd Venice Film Festival and was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2005. IFC Films acquired the U.S. theatrical rights to Drawing Restraint 9 and has distributed the film to screen in 18 cities across the U.S. in the fall of 2006.
