Dragon Hunters

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

More properly called Chasseurs de Dragons in its original French title, Dragon Hunters is a cartoon series from Futurikon that follows the adventures of two hunters for hire through a futuristic, medieval world of floating land masses that is terrorized by a widely varying menace of monsters known collectively as dragons.

There are three main characters: Lian-Chu, Gwizdo and Hector. Lian-Chu is the sword wielding, muscle-bound warrior who actually deals out the dragon slaying, while Gwizdo is the crafty minded brains in the group who negotiates their contracts with the helpless people terrorized by dragons. Hector is their pet dragon who does not possess the evil nature of the ones they hunt.

The program was featured in the United States on Cartoon Network for a few weeks around January of 2006, but, after having its time slot moved, vanished from the line-up. Unlike the other cartoons around its Saturday morning time slot, several episodes of Dragon Hunters were rated TV-PG. It reappeared on Cartoon Network in September 2006, but disappeared again in October 2006. It is currently available for viewing on Cartoon Network Video.

A 3-D, full length feature film and videogame based on the series are both in production. Currently, Geneon is releasing the series on DVD in the U.S. and Canada. So far, Vols. 1 - 4 (Eps. 1 - 14) are available. Vol. 5 (Eps. 15 - 17) is scheduled to be released on December 19, 2006.

The show's theme, "Dragon Hunter's Theme", is performed by the alterna-rock band, The Cure.
