Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler (Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler) is the first film in the Mabuse series by Fritz Lang from 1922. The film is silent and mostly shot in 16 frame/s.

[edit] Synopsis
Mabuse is a doctor of psychology and master of disguise. He tricks many people out of money by conning them and using hypnotism. He murders many people, and towards the end sees their ghosts, and goes mad. It is debatable about whether he saw the ghosts because he was mad, or that seeing the ghosts sent him mad. He is then sent to an asylum which is the setting for the next film, Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse (The Testament of Dr. Mabuse, also known as The Last Will of Dr. Mabuse) ten years on.

Rudolf Klein-Rogge (Mabuse) also stars in the sequel to this film, Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse (1933) as well as the earlier silent film Metropolis (1927), also directed by Fritz Lang.
Fritz Lang is portrayed as a character in the anime film Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa and goes by the alias of 'Mabuse' in the first part of the film.
