Dr. Hamid Aboutalebi

The Islamic Republic of Iran to Australia.

Dr. Aboutalebi was born in Tehran, Iran, in 1957, and is married with three children. He is fluent in french, English, Arabic, and Italian, and has been awarded a BA Sociology from Tehran University (1979); a MA sociology from the Sorbonne University, Paris (1983); a MA History of Islamic Civilization and Culture from Tehran University (1987); and a Ph.D in the History of Civilization from Leuven University (1999).

Dr. Aboutalebi has been a member of the Scientific Council of the Great Islamic Encyclopedia; Dean of the Department for Scientific Research of the Great Islamic Encyclopedia; a university lecturer; and author of various published works on analytic history, civilizations, and politics.

Dr. Aboutalebi has enjoyed a varied career since beginning work at the Ministry of foreign Affairs (1981), from where he then began working as an expert on Francophone countries in the west Europe Directorate (1981-2).He was appointed Deputy of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Paris, from 1982 to 1983, after which he assumed the role of Desk Officer of Francophone Countries in the West Europe Directorate, a position he held from 1983 to 1985.

From 1985 to 1986 Dr. Aboutalebi served as Deputy Director for West Europe, becoming Director for West Europe from 1986 to 1988.

In 1988 Dr. Aboutalebi was appointed Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Italy, Accredited to Malta and Albania, which position he held until 1992, when he became Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (1992-5). During that appointment Dr. Aboutalebi was also a member of The Iranian Delegation to the United Nations general Assembly (1993).

Dr. Aboutalebi was appointed Ambassador of the Islamic republic of Iran to Belgium, Accredited to European Union and Luxembourg, between 1995 and 2000, after which he became Director-General of South-East Asia (2000), and Director-General of East Asia and Pacific (2001).

In 2004, Dr. Aboutalebi was appointed Ambassador of the islamic republic of Iran to Australia.
