Downward stroke

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

1.In handwriting research, a downward stroke (downstroke) is a ballistic stroke having a negative vertical-velocity component of the pen-tip trajectory.

2. In guitar-playing research, a "down(ward) stroke" is a furious, repetitive ballistic stroke having an extremely fast, negative vertical-velocity component of the tip of the guitar-pick's trajectory. Immediately after coming in contact with the strings, the pick's trajectory converts to a positive vertical velocity. During the time it is moving upward, the tip of the pick never comes in contact with the strings. This cycle can be repeated however many times is necessary.

Among the most famous guitarists that used this technique was the late Johnny Ramone of the Ramones.
