Downsview Airfield

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Downsview Airfield opened in 1929 as general aviation airfield and one of two airports in the area. It was built by De Havilland for testing aircraft at the plant at the site.

The site was later occupied by the Royal Canadian Air Force or RCAF, then by Canadian Forces.

Along with the Toronto Aerodrome, the smaller airfields in Toronto disappeared before World War II. The airfield later gave rise to the current Toronto/Downsview Airport.
